The deal, slated to conclude in the second quarter of 2024, underscores AGP-Europe’s steadfast commitment to sustainable glass packaging and its desire to bolster its presence in the Swedish market.

This acquisition enables AGP-Europe to secure a dependable, high-quality recycled glass cullet, a crucial raw material for eco-friendly glass packaging solutions.

Moreover, the timing of the deal coincides with pivotal developments in Swedish glass recycling. Recent regulations mandate municipalities to assume post-consumer glass collection responsibilities and introduce property-based collection systems.

The Swedish Brewery Association, a former co-owner of SGÅ, also voiced support for the acquisition, recognizing AGP-Europe’s contributions to advancing high-quality glass with a significant proportion of recycled glass cullet.

Anna-Karin Fondberg, the association’s CEO, highlighted the importance of securing a sustainable supply of glass packaging with a low carbon footprint for the Swedish food and beverage sector.

In parallel with its efforts in Sweden, Ardagh Group is making significant strides in enhancing the sustainability of its operations across Europe.

The installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at several packaging manufacturing sites, including a recent 1.75 MW rooftop system at a glass packaging facility in Irvine, Scotland, underscores the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

Graeme Shepherd, plant director at the AGP-Europe Irvine facility, emphasized the solar installation’s role in decarbonizing operations while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

Similar solar PV installations at Ardagh Group’s facilities in the Netherlands further demonstrate the company’s dedication to transitioning to 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and reducing its carbon footprint.
