ANGOLA – Global packaging specialist ALPLA and beverage producer Refriango have unveiled their second in-house plant at the Refriango site in Viana, Angola.
This expansion aims to enhance efficiency and capacity and reduce the carbon footprint.
Javier Delgado, regional managing director for AMET (Africa, Middle East & Turkey) at ALPLA, highlighted the vast opportunities in the dynamic markets of southern Africa, particularly Angola.
He emphasized the joint expansion as a significant step forward, leveraging ALPLA’s technological prowess as a system provider to bolster Refriango’s supply chain.
The new production line is seamlessly integrated with Refriango’s filling lines, marking ALPLA’s clear commitment to the growth markets in southern Africa.
This expansion amplifies production efficiency and capacity and enhances the production of plastic bottles directly connected to the customer’s filling lines, alongside PET preforms and closures.
Refriango, a licensed Coca-Cola bottler since 2022, operates 24 bottling lines for over 150 products, making it one of ALPLA’s major customers in the region.
Mike Resnicek, finance and commercial director for AMET at ALPLA, emphasized the strategic importance of ALPLA Sopro in strengthening the partnership and supporting Refriango’s anticipated growth trajectory with sustainable solutions.
The new plant, specializing in PET bottle production, will create 73 additional jobs and signify ALPLA’s commitment to excellence, customer satisfaction, and socio-economic progress in Angola.
Meanwhile, ALPLA recently inaugurated its expanded facility in Vlotho-Exter, Germany, which was invested for approximately €30 million (US$32.26m).
The modernization and enlargement of the plant aim to enhance long-term competitiveness. The plant will focus on producing PET bottles and preforms for local mineral water companies and reusable bottles for beverages and cosmetics markets.
Georg Pescher, ALPLA Germany managing director, underscored the company’s commitment to Vlotho-Exter as an essential competence and production center within the ALPLA Group, aligning with their global sustainability strategy.
The opening ceremony of the expanded facility was attended by various dignitaries, including members of the German Bundestag and the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament, recognizing ALPLA’s role as a pioneer in the circular economy.
Pescher expressed ALPLA’s eagerness to contribute expertise and knowledge to North Rhine-Westphalia’s pioneering efforts towards a circular economy in plastics.
