FRANCE – Amcor and Fromagerie Milleret have introduced recyclable paper packaging for the premium cheeses Le Baron Brie and l’Ortolan Bio, employing Amcor’s AmFiber Matrix recyclable breathable wrap.
This innovative paper packaging maintains recyclability within existing paper streams while upholding the product’s quality and integrity.
The new packaging solution, as per Amcor’s Asset LCA, notably reduces water consumption by 53% compared to its predecessor.
“Eighty-four percent of European consumers actively seek recycling instructions on packaged products, and sixty percent consider recyclability instructions and sustainability logos when making purchasing decisions,” states Laura Delapeyronnie, Amcor’s Dairy Marketing Manager.
Data from Innova Market Insights reveals a surge in F&B product launches emphasizing biodegradability or compostability, nearly tripling since 2018. Despite this trend, only 7% of global consumers perceive paper-based packaging as unsustainable.
Controlling moisture content in cheese packaging is crucial to prevent moisture entrapment, Amcor points out.
With over 30 years of collaboration, Amcor and Fromagerie Milleret utilized their expertise in soft cheese products to develop eco-friendly packaging.
Amcor’s AmFiber Matrix packaging enables control over the moisture level and ripening process in soft cheese.
This control is vital as inadequate air exchange can lead to excess moisture, resulting in undesirable texture.
Conversely, excessively porous packaging risks drying out the cheese. Amcor’s solution is tailor-made to support cheese ripening, allowing Fromagerie Milleret to maintain the desired texture and flavor.
Delapeyronnie highlights the breathability of the solution, addressing consumer concerns about dairy product shelf life and food wastage. She emphasizes its adaptability in shapes, colors, and sizes.
Chloé Petit, Export Manager at Fromagerie Milleret, underlines the company’s century-long dedication to sustainability in cheese production. The ongoing partnership with Amcor further solidifies their commitment to achieving complete recyclability for their dairy range.
This partnership comes five months after Amcor built a new production line for high-performance shrink bags and films for meat and cheese at its Amcor Flexibles plant in Swansea, UK.
According to Amcor, the new production line will deliver several products in Amcor’s PrimeSeal packaging range for meat and DairySeal packaging range for cheese, including Crystal Shield 75 shrink bag, Eco-Tite, Cook-Tite, Flow-Tite, and Form-Tite.
