The new Perflex shrink bag design aims to Remove the additional packaging material from conventional turkey packaging, which uses a net around the product to create a strong carrying handle.
This development achieves a more convenient and sustainable package.
Additionally, the new Perflex handle bag enhances efficiency by eliminating the need for manual netting.

Amcor’s Perflex handle bag demonstrates significant environmental benefits, including a 22% reduction in carbon footprint, a 23% decrease in demand for non-renewable primary energy, and a 22% decrease in water consumption.
These improvements underscore Amcor’s ongoing commitment to enhancing packaging sustainability without compromising functionality or product protection.
Through a strong partnership with Butterball, Amcor’s Catalyst collaborative innovation team has successfully designed and developed a new, sustainable package for their boneless turkey breast roast, demonstrating a shared commitment to sustainability.
Physical prototype iterations were developed using Catalyst’s rapid prototyping capabilities, a cutting-edge technology that enables fast and cost-effective design iterations, ensuring the best product possible for our customers.
The physical prototype iterations were evaluated for functionality, strength and consumer preference.
“Our ability to deliver the actual production specifications in prototype quantities allowed Butterball to gain authentic consumer feedback at each stage of the design,” explains Greta Shimon, marketing manager at Amcor.
“We were pleased that Amcor’s solution was compatible with our existing packaging equipment so we could efficiently make the change,” said Valerie Saint Sing, senior brand manager for Butterball.
“Consumers are constantly seeking protein options that are nutritious and easy to prepare. Our boneless turkey breast roast is the perfect solution for a delicious, convenient meal. This sleek new packaging will certainly make it stand out on the shelf.”
Recently, Amcor achieved a 16% plastic reduction in Bulldog tube packaging.
