SWITZERLAND – Global packaging solutions provider Amcor has reported a 9% reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions for 2024, as detailed in its latest Sustainability Report.

This progress is further underscored by a significant 64% increase in renewable electricity usage compared to the previous year.

Amcor’s sustainability initiatives also focus on recyclable solutions. More than 94% of its flexible packaging, by area, is now recyclable, while 95% of its rigid packaging, by weight, is recyclable on a scale.

The company surpassed its goal of incorporating at least 10% post-consumer recycled plastic into its products a year ahead of schedule, purchasing over 254,000 tonnes of recycled materials.

Additionally, Amcor has achieved 100% certification as recyclable for its specialty carton packaging by the Institute cyclos-HTP, further advancing its commitment to environmental stewardship.

In 2024, Amcor generated US$8.1 billion in revenue from products that meet global recyclability standards.

With a workforce of 41,000 employees, Amcor reported US$13.6 billion in sales for the financial year, reflecting its global reach across sectors such as food, beverage, medical, and home care.

Peter Konieczny, Amcor’s CEO, emphasized the company’s leadership in sustainable packaging, “Amcor has led the way in designing products to be recyclable and more efficient, but design alone is not enough.

“Society needs consumer participation and infrastructure development to make circularity real – to ensure used packaging is recycled and doesn’t end up in nature. Sustainability drives our purpose and inspires everything we do.”

In recognition of its sustainability achievements, Amcor received the EcoVadis Gold medal, with its overall score improving from 70 to 73, placing it in the top 5% of companies evaluated.

The award particularly highlights Amcor’s efforts in sustainable procurement, placing it among the top 1% in its sector.

David Clark, Amcor’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said, “Our customers seek partners who share their values and uphold the highest standards. Receiving the EcoVadis Gold medal is a testament to our dedication and the tangible progress we’ve made on our sustainability journey.”

Amcor’s continued advancements in sustainability reflect its long-term commitment to reducing environmental impact while delivering innovative packaging solutions.
