APP Group, Continental Cup launches compostable cup range

The APP Group’s Foopak Bio Natura will be responsible for producing GC120 cups.

INDONESIA – APP Group (Asia Pulp & Paper), a major Indonesian pulp and paper company and a subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group, has teamed up with Continental Cup to launch GC120, a range of compostable and recyclable cups for food service applications.

The GC120 initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for sustainable solutions in the food service sector globally.

The APP Group’s Foopak Bio Natura will be responsible for producing GC120 cups and, further, offering a per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances-free and food-safe substitute for conventional plastic-lined cups.

This advancement not only addresses environmental issues but also the changing regulatory landscape within the industry.

The cups are designed to integrate water-based barrier technology.

This advancement aims to promote sustainability through circular principles while maintaining superior thermal stability and resilience for food service applications.

According to APP Group and Continental Cup, the cup allows food and beverage businesses to transition from conventional plastic-coated cups without Relinquishing product safety and effectiveness.

The GC120 cups align with industry regulations and foster long-term sustainability objectives, making them easily adaptable for enterprises seeking responsible alternatives.

According to the company, GC120 was initially presented at the National Restaurant Association Show, and its capacity to transform food service packaging by offering a scalable, plastic-free option was widely acknowledged.

APP Group senior vice-president and Industrial White head Kin Keung Christopher Wong said, “As sustainability standards evolve, businesses need packaging solutions that align with both regulatory changes and consumer expectations.”

In May 2025, APP introduced the Sinar Vanda Hi-Brite C1S, a sustainable paperboard packaging solution designed to meet the high-performance demands of efficient and environmentally conscious businesses.

Similarly, in April 2025, APP Group introduced Foopak Bio Natura, a biodegradable and compostable packaging range for the Singapore market.
