Ball Corporation seals acquisition of Alucan, Saica Group buys Schumacher Packaging’s Polish operations

USA – Ball Corporation, a leader in sustainable aluminum packaging, has acquired Alucan, a prominent supplier of extruded aluminum aerosol and bottle technology in Europe.

This strategic acquisition expands Ball’s footprint in Europe with manufacturing facilities in Llinars del Vallés, Spain, and Lummen, Belgium, reinforcing its global position in the aerosol and bottle sectors.

The new plants will help Ball meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions and offer scalable options to its customers, including those in food, beverage, and personal care industries.

Ball’s focus on innovation and sustainability will be further bolstered by Alucan’s expertise, with the company planning to reduce product weight, increase recycled content, and improve logistical efficiency, thereby cutting CO₂ emissions.

Jay Billings, President of Ball Growth Ventures, expressed excitement about the deal, emphasizing that integrating Alucan’s capabilities would enable greater flexibility, innovation, and capacity for Ball’s customers.

This acquisition not only enhances Ball’s sustainable packaging offerings but also helps optimize its manufacturing processes and customer relationships.

Saica Group takes over Schumacher Packaging’s Polish division

In another strategic move, Saica Group, a leader in paper solutions, has completed the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging’s Polish operations.

The acquisition includes two corrugated board plants and two paper mills, significantly expanding Saica’s production capacity by 420,000 tonnes of recycled paper and increasing corrugated cardboard production by an additional 530 million square meters.

With this move, Saica Group now employs over 1,500 people in Poland and strengthens its position in the Central and Eastern European markets.

Saica Group CEO Susana Alejandro highlighted the importance of integrating Schumacher’s skilled workforce into the Saica family, emphasizing that this acquisition aligns with the company’s strategic growth plans, particularly in Eastern Europe.

The move is part of Saica’s broader goal to develop a circular economy business model and further expand its infrastructure in the region, as outlined in its Saica 2025 strategy.

Both acquisitions reflect a commitment to sustainable practices and the growing demand for eco-friendly packaging solutions in Europe.
