US – US-based infant nutrition company ByHeart has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Cascadia Nutrition, a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-registered packaging and blending facility.
Based in Portland, Oregon, Cascadia Nutrition specializes in packaging infant formula for global brands and was previously owned by the Balogh family and DPI Group, a non-profit organization.
The deal will help ByHeart to achieve its goals of diversifying and establishing resilient, high-quality infant formula production in the US via achieving total end-to-end control and oversight of product manufacturing.
ByHeart will also hire members of the Balogh family as part of the transaction to sustain the facility’s current personnel and uphold its objective.
Cascadia President Ashley Balogh said: “We are pleased to join forces with a partner who shares our vision of bringing high-quality infant formula to babies and parents everywhere, an urgency widely recognized during the current infant formula shortage.
“As a result of its five-year regulatory and clinical journey, ByHfulfills is now uniquely positioned to serve the needs of the US infant formula market with the only new dedicated packaging facility, pending FDA registration.”
To fulfill the conditions for Cascadia’s registration for the US baby formula market, ByHeart has supplied the US health regulator with a regulatory filing.
In addition, the business will start using Cascadia packaging in its fully-owned manufacturing supply chain.
It anticipates starting to deliver its premium newborn formula to clients in the second quarter of the year.
ByHeart CEO and co-founder Ron Belldegrun added: “As a company committed to parents, our goal has always been full ownership and oversight of our end-to-end manufacturing process.
“We managed to achieve that goal with the exception of packaging which was conducted by a reputable third-party partner while we worked towards bringing that piece in-house.
“This acquisition will enable full control over our manufacturing process so that we can deliver a product at the highest standards of quality, safety and reliability for our ByHeart families.”
