Canon launches Colorado XL-series printers, expanding large-format graphics capabilities

The new series comprises two models: the Colorado XL7 roll-to-roll printer and the Colorado XL7 hybrid printer.

UAE – Canon has unveiled the Colorado XL-series, a new 3.4-metre-wide printing platform that extends the advantages of its renowned UVgel technology to the 3.2-metre large-format graphics market.

The series, available in roll-to-roll and hybrid configurations, is designed to deliver exceptional productivity, versatility, and automation for a wide range of media applications, from signage and décor to packaging and point-of-sale displays.

The new series comprises two models: the Colorado XL7 roll-to-roll printer and the Colorado XL7 hybrid printer.

Both models leverage Canon’s UVgel technology to deliver odourless, instant-dry prints with high colour consistency, robust durability, and low-temperature curing.

The system supports print speeds up to 211m² per hour and can handle substrates up to 52mm thick, catering to both flexible and rigid applications.

At the core of this new platform is the UVgel 860 ink set, engineered to deliver vivid, durable prints across a wide range of materials, from vinyl, banner, and paper to acrylic, aluminium composite boards, and cardboard.

The UVgel 850 printheads, featuring over 4,500 nozzles per head, include automated nozzle monitoring and compensation for continuous, high-precision output.

Canon’s FullBeam Curing technology further enhances uniformity and colour gamut through a 3.4-metre-wide LED curing array paired with a mirror system that ensures consistent light dosing across the print width.

Meanwhile, the TRIdrive vacuum belt system optimizes media handling by automatically detecting and correcting skew and wrinkling, guaranteeing accurate and repeatable print positioning.

Optional advanced features, carried over from the successful Colorado M-series, include: UVgel White for high-opacity white printing, FLXfinish+, enabling gloss, matte, or mixed finishes without varnish, and FLXture, for textured effects that simulate materials like leather or wood.

Mathew Faulkner, Director of Marketing & Innovation, Wide Format Printing Group at Canon EMEA, described the launch as a “breakthrough addition” that will redefine productivity and versatility in large-format printing.

“This innovative solution brings the proven advantages of UVgel to the 3.2m market for the first time, enabling print providers to expand into décor and packaging while maintaining consistent quality across roll-fed and rigid applications,” he said.

The Colorado XL-series will be available globally from early 2026 through Canon’s direct sales network and authorized partners.
