COLOMBIA – Crown Holdings, Inc. has achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification at its Crown Colombiana S.A. production facilities in Tocancipá, Colombia.

The facility produces aluminium can bodies for the beverage industry. This is the first facility in Colombia to attain ASI Certification.

This accomplishment marks a significant milestone as Crown becomes the first company in Colombia to receive this certification, demonstrating its commitment to responsible sourcing practices.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Crown for achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at its Crown Colombiana S.A. production facilities, the first ASI Certified facility in Colombia.

“Their commitment to sustainability and catalyzing action to embrace responsible and sustainable practices are evident in its growing list of certified facilities. We look forward to following Crown’s ongoing efforts to achieve ASI certification across its operating regions.”

The achievement supports the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s (ASI) expansion into new regions in South America and encourages other manufacturers in the area to follow suit in validating their procurement processes.

The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain.

The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental, social, and governance principles and criteria with the aim of addressing sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain.

It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Environment, Social, and Governance, which address key issues such as biodiversity, labour rights, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The independent, third-party audit of Crown Colombiana S.A. was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.

The audit took place prior to May 31, 2023, thus enabling a Performance Standard V2 certification. No non-conformances were identified.

Crown president of Colombia Juan Carlos Trujillo emphasized the company’s dedication to corporate stewardship and responsible sourcing.

He stated: “Our latest ASI Performance Standard Certification in Colombia reflects our continued efforts to be diligent within our procurement not just within South America, but our global organization.”

Crown’s commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated through its Twentyby30 program, which aims to achieve 100% supplier compliance with sourcing policies and actively engage with partners on sustainability topics.
