Danone maintains environmental leadership with fifth consecutive Triple ‘A’ score from CDP

FRANCE – Paris-headquartered multinational food-products giant, Danone, has once again garnered accolades for its unwavering commitment to corporate transparency and excellence in addressing climate change, forest preservation, and water security.

This achievement marks Danone’s fifth consecutive year of recognition by the esteemed global environmental non-profit organization, CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).

Among the 21,000 companies assessed in 2023, Danone stands out as one of the elite 10 corporations to secure a coveted spot on the prestigious A List across all three environmental domains scrutinized by CDP: climate change, forest conservation, and water security.

This noteworthy achievement underscores Danone’s steadfast dedication to environmental stewardship and its continual strides toward achieving net-zero emissions throughout its entire value chain by 2050.

Throughout 2023, Danone has further fortified its sustainability trajectory, epitomized by the Danone Impact Journey, which entails bold initiatives aimed at curbing methane emissions by 30% by 2030 in its fresh milk supply chain.

Concurrently, Danone is actively fostering the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices geared toward enhancing carbon sequestration in soil, preserving biodiversity, and optimizing water resource utilization, thereby catalyzing the transformation of food systems.

Demonstrating proactive environmental leadership, Danone became one of the pioneering entities to incorporate Forest, Land, and Agriculture (FLAG) emissions into its 1.5°C greenhouse gas reduction targets, securing validation from the esteemed Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

With a resolute commitment to slashing emissions by 35% by 2030, Danone recently unveiled its comprehensive Climate Transition Plan, delineating a robust roadmap for decarbonizing its operations across the value chain, thus propelling the organization toward achieving Net-Zero emissions by 2050 in alignment with a 1.5°C trajectory.

In tandem with its sustainability endeavors, Danone commemorated 25 years of partnership with the Ramsar Convention, championing the conservation of wetlands, pivotal ecosystems crucial for mitigating climate change impacts.

Moreover, in September, Danone forged an innovative collaboration with the Global Methane Hub (GMH) to combat methane emissions and foster scalable solutions within the agricultural sector.

Pioneering this collaboration, Danone assumed the role of the inaugural corporate sponsor of the Enteric Fermentation R&D Accelerator, the largest globally coordinated research initiative on enteric methane.

Spearheaded by GMH and bolstered by a consortium of philanthropic organizations and governmental bodies, the Accelerator is dedicated to financing groundbreaking research and innovation aimed at developing practical and scalable solutions for livestock farmers to mitigate enteric fermentation, a pivotal step in curbing methane emissions stemming from ruminant livestock digestion.
