ÉEQ launches ‘Bin Impact’ initiative to enhance recycling practices in Quebec

CANADA – Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), a private non-profit organization, has launched a new awareness initiative named Bin Impact to enhance recycling practices in the Canadian province.

The initiative seeks to educate the public on the proper sorting of recyclables and the importance of responsible recycling practices.

As the designated producer responsibility organization (PRO) for curbside recycling in Quebec, ÉEQ aims to educate the public about proper sorting of recyclables and the significance of responsible recycling.

The campaign will be disseminated through local TV, radio, social media, and print platforms, emphasizing that only recyclable containers, packaging, and printed matter should be placed in recycling bins.

ÉEQ’s survey, conducted with 2,100 respondents, highlights a gap in recycling knowledge, revealing that while a high percentage of Quebecers participate in curbside recycling, only a small fraction consistently verify material recyclability.

Bin Impact seeks to address misconceptions and encourage better recycling habits among the public, aiming to improve the efficiency of the recycling system.

ÉEQ President and CEO Maryse Vermette emphasized the importance of raising public awareness to enhance the quality and quantity of materials sent to sorting centers.

Nespresso Canada expands Green Bag recycling scheme

In another development, Nespresso Canada has expanded its Green Bag recycling solution to all communities in the province of Prince Edward Island, thereby enabling residents to recycle their aluminium coffee capsules.

The programme, which is now active in more than 1,000 communities across Canada, provides Nespresso users with a green bag to collect their used capsules.

Once full, the bag can be placed in the user’s household recycling system, where it will be directed to a sorting centre and processed to separate the coffee grounds from the aluminium for recycling. The coffee grounds will be used as high-quality compost for local farms.

Nespresso Canada Marketing and Corporate Communications vice-president Frédéric Pasquier said: “We are proud to extend once again access to the Green Bag solution to new residents, in Prince Edward Island this time, so that they can simply and effectively give a second life to the coffee capsules they enjoy every day. We are pursuing our efforts to offer this service to new communities in the near future.”
