Having announced its intent in April, EGA confirmed the Eco Green majority acquisition has now met all regulatory and closing requirements.

UAE/ITALY – Emirates Global Aluminium has completed its acquisition of an 80 percent stake in Eco Green, an Italian recycled-content aluminium producer, expanding the UAE company’s global recycling capacity to more than 400,000 metric tons annually.
EGA, which announced its intention to acquire a majority stake in Eco Green this April, confirmed the transaction has satisfied all required regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
The Italian producer operates two plants in the northeast of the country, engaging in aluminium scrap collection, sorting, casting and dross processing, offering more than 70,000 metric tons per year to the market.
At its Villafranca di Verona site, Eco Green collects, sorts and distributes approximately 23,000 metric tons of aluminium scrap annually.
Global Recycling Footprint Expands Across Four Nations
Following the acquisition, EGA holds more than 400,000 metric tons per year of aluminium recycling capacity across the UAE, the United States, Germany and Italy, with a further 200,000 metric tons under development.
In the United States, the company’s investment has centred on its 2024 acquisition of Minnesota-based Spectro Alloys, now known as EGA Spectro Alloys, where it has invested steadily to increase recycled-content aluminium production.
Some industry analysts expect around half of all aluminium demand to be met with recycled-content metal by 2040.
In Europe, EGA positions itself as a major primary aluminium supplier, selling 600,000 tons annually to European industries.
Founding Family Retains Minority Role
Eco Green was founded by the Scappini family in 1993. The family will remain minority shareholders and members of the management team, and the assets will be rebranded as EGA Eco Green.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, chief executive of EGA, said Eco Green made EGA an even better partner for Europe’s green future and further expanded its growing global aluminium recycling business.
He added that Eco Green brought capability in Europe’s aluminium scrap market, which was important for expanding recycling operations on the continent.
Leadership Cites Growth Potential Under New Ownership
Luca Scappini, chief executive of Eco Green, said the company was proud of what it had achieved, growing into a leading aluminium recycling business in Italy over more than three decades.
He noted that becoming part of EGA unlocked potential for further growth as a key pillar of EGA’s expanding European recycling network, enabling better products and services for customers while creating opportunities for employees.
