US – Engineered Foam Packaging (EFP), a leader in custom protective packaging and cold chain solutions has completed the acquisition of a natural fiber insulated shipper, NatureKool.

This acquisition adds to EFP’s efforts to provide a complete line of high-quality and repeatable cold-chain packaging solutions to the U.S.

Cold-Chain Packaging is the process of packaging and shipping goods while maintaining a consistent temperature from the manufacturer to the consumer

The acquisition will also link the geographic expansion of EFP’s Temperature Solutions Group and the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

EFP president John Hoeper said: “We continue to invest in our business with a focus on applying our unique capabilities to unlock the value of breakthrough packaging needs.

“This acquisition of NatureKool augments our capabilities and strengthens our presence in the growing field of curbside recyclable packaging.”

With the acquisition of NatureKool, EFP will be able to offer natural fiber thermal packaging with the same thermal performance currently offered by EPS.

With NatureKool joining the EFP Temperature Solutions Group, cold chain customers will receive more assistance, and current and potential customers will gain from the environmental and health advantages.

Products made by NatureKool are compostable and curbside recyclable because they are made of natural fibers that are grown without the use of harmful chemicals, EFP said.

NatureKool CEO Joe Grzyb said: “We couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the possibilities for the future.

“The integration of NatureKool into EFP will provide the additional resources, expertise, and insights that will expand our high-performance, natural fiber insulation product lines while we continue to earn our reputation for excellence in delivery and customer service.”

Utilizing expanded polystyrene (EPS) material, EFP’s Temperature Solutions Group offers temperature assurance packaging for the efficient and secure transport of pharmaceuticals, food distribution, vaccinations, and other temperature-sensitive products.

The protective packaging provider has a product offering featuring technology that has refrigerated or frozen applications.

Its COE Labs offers customized design and testing services and packaging solutions along with qualification and validation services to meet all regulatory requirements.

The deal comes at a time when the U.S. cold chain packaging market size valued at US$3.04 billion in 2017 is expected to register a CAGR of 14.1% from 2018 to 2025.

The industry growth is attributed to expanding organized retail sectors in emerging economies, which creates opportunities for U.S.-based cold chain service providers.
