Unlike conventional caps, PICCOLO features a two-piece design with tamper-evident functionality.

NIGERIA – Global closure solutions leader Guala Closures has announced a strategic partnership with IKILEADS Ltd to launch a new line of 200ml “Don Coco” PET bottles across six spirit variants, malt-blend whisky, gin, vodka, tequila, whisky, and ready-to-drink formats.
Annual production is projected at 25–30 million units, signaling a major investment in Africa’s expanding small-format spirits segment.
At the heart of this collaboration is PICCOLO, a new premium closure designed by Guala Closures specifically for PET bottles.
The innovation represents the company’s entry into Africa’s fast-growing market for small, portable, and affordable spirit packaging, a segment historically dominated by simple carbonated soft drink (CSD) caps.
“PICCOLO is our answer to a growing demand for secure, premium closures in Africa’s PET spirits market,” said Sadanand Hanagodimath, Managing Director of Guala Closures West Africa LFZE.
“By combining technical innovation with brand protection, we are enabling producers to elevate their offering and safeguard their reputation.”
Unlike conventional caps, PICCOLO features a two-piece design with tamper-evident functionality, customizable dual-color options, and compatibility with specially designed PET preforms.
These features provide enhanced product security and enable stronger brand differentiation through embossed or engraved logos.
Manufacturing will take place at Guala Closures’ Nigerian facility, underscoring the company’s growing local presence.
For IKILEADS, the collaboration represents an opportunity to redefine quality in an accessible packaging format.
“Partnering with Guala Closures allows us to bring a new level of quality and security to our customers,” said Innocent Ikechukwu, Managing Director of IKILEADS Ltd.
“In a market where small-format PET bottles are key growth drivers, this innovation gives consumers confidence in product integrity while helping ‘Don Coco’ stand out in a competitive environment.”
The project began in February 2025, with technical cooperation across Guala’s plants in India and Nigeria, and support from its Product Development & Innovation Center in Italy.
Industry experts view the development as a timely move as Africa’s spirits market continues to evolve toward safer, tamper-proof packaging solutions.
According to market data, the continent’s alcoholic beverages sector is projected to grow at over 5% annually through 2030, with small PET formats leading sales in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.
With PICCOLO, Guala Closures aims to set a new benchmark for innovation, safety, and design in Africa’s beverage packaging landscape.
