USA – US-based alcohol start-up Jinx Drinx has officially launched its Boozy Punch in Las Vegas, Nevada, featuring innovative packaging designed to mitigate tampering.
The pouch, created by Zenpack, promotes responsible alcohol consumption with a sealed-in straw to prevent drink tampering and drug-facilitated sexual assault (DFSA).
Open drinkware or packaging can increase the risk of tampering, where drugs or additional alcohol are added without the consumer’s knowledge.
Jinx cofounder Maddie Largey highlighted the importance of this safety feature: “DFSA is a serious problem in the US, and we believe Jinx can help consumers, especially Gen Z, enjoy their drinks without the fear of tampering.”
The patent-pending pouch received the 2024 iF [International Forum Design GmbH] Award for design excellence. Zenpack stated, “We set out to create the perfect form and material for usability, straw access, and production efficiency.”
Jinx cofounder Colin Michael, who previously designed an alcohol product for beverage giant AB InBev, has brought his expertise to this new venture.
At the launch event in Las Vegas, Jinx advisor and former vice-president at Heineken and Breakthru Beverage praised the innovation: “Jinx is truly changing how consumers view drinking occasions.”
Gary Charmel, Western Regional President at Johnson Brothers Liquor Company, added, “In the competitive wider beverage alcohol landscape, it’s difficult to find a truly unique business like Jinx.”
The global alcoholic beverages packaging industry achieved a volume of 443 billion units in 2023 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of more than 2% from 2023 to 2028.
Last year, UNITED CAPS launched its 23 H-PAK tethered closure for carton packaging, featuring a tamper-evident band that keeps all parts intact and facilitates easier recycling.
This patent-pending closure is both highly effective and sustainable. It is designed for seamless integration with existing production processes to ensure fast implementation.
The 23 H-PAK consists of a spout, closure, and cutter, one less piece than other solutions, making recycling easier.
The closure includes a first-time-use feature with a cutting edge designed to cut through a pre-laminated hole with minimal effort, resulting in a clean and smooth opening.
“One of the stand-out features of this new tethered closure is its audible click when opening, a satisfying sound that lets consumers know their closure is in an open position,” explained Benoit Henckes, CEO of UNITED CAPS.
“Once opened, it is in the optimal position for use, and the cap stays in position for the perfect pour.”
Due to its lightweight design, the 23 H-PAK reduces customers’ running costs and helps them lower their obligations to pay plastic taxes, positioning it as a cost-effective solution for carton packaging.
“We are pleased to be bringing to market one of the first tethered closures for carton packaging,” said Henckes.
“In addition to its ability to keep all parts intact for recycling, its super-strong hinge ensures the box-fresh experience consumers are looking for. It enhances the user experience and helps protect the environment, a critical R&D driver for UNITED CAPS.”
