USA – Novolex has announced the launch of food packaging containers that are both recyclable and made with a minimum 10 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) content.

Manufactured by Novolex brand Waddington North America (WNA), the new products include various sizes of dessert cups, tamper-evident containers, cake containers, and bakery clamshells.

“We are proud to add to our growing number of products manufactured with recycled content,” says Stephen Kapantais, Director of technology, rigid plastics at Novolex.

“Sustainability is critical to the future of our industry, and we are committed to creating even more innovative products to reduce our impact on the environment and support the circular economy.”

The range’s Signature dessert cups are made with strong and recyclable plastic and polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

These transparent cups, featuring a universal lid, are available in three sizes.

CakePak’s customizable bases and lids come with the patented EZ Release system featuring easy-to-use lift tabs.

Meanwhile, the stackable BreakAway tamper-evident containers are designed to enhance food safety and are available in various popular sizes and shapes.

The new multiuse clamshells offer improved product visibility and food presentation without compromising on quality.

These clamshells, also featuring secure closure systems, are available in various custom shapes and sizes and are suitable for loaf cakes, cookies, and other products.

In April 2023, Novolex unveiled its Power Prep packaging for fresh food, comprising a laminated and insulated wrap.

Power Prep uses non-fluorinated oil-and-grease-resistant paper, which is laminated using a honeycomb pattern to create an insulated layer.

It is also reportedly more puncture-resistant than foil or foil/paper structures and is designed with anti-curling capabilities to allow for flat sheeting when food products are assembled at scale.

The packaging is aimed at supermarkets and other food service operators and is available as cut sheets in different sizes or as a roll. It can also be custom-printed to include brand and promotional messaging.

Novolex director of technology for paper Tim Coulson said: “When a national convenience store needed a new flexible packaging option for grab-and-go hot sandwiches, our innovation team developed a four-layer structure specifically designed to control moisture and heat.”

Novolex operates 56 manufacturing plants in North America and Europe, including two plastic film recycling facilities.
