MOROCCO – OCP Group, a global leader in plant nutrition and phosphate-based fertilizers, has joined forces with Fortescue Energy, part of Fortescue Ltd, a company specializing in green energy, metals, and technology, to form a landmark joint venture in Morocco.
This partnership, based on equal collaboration, aims to supply green hydrogen, ammonia, and fertilizers to Morocco, Europe, and international markets while advancing renewable energy technologies.
According to the parties, the venture is driven by a shared commitment to reducing emissions and fostering sustainability.
Their collaboration outlines ambitious plans for several cornerstone projects in Morocco, including large-scale green ammonia and fertilizer production, manufacturing of green technology and equipment, and establishing an R&D and Technology Hub near Marrakech in partnership with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) to advance research in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and minerals processing.
The primary goal is to supply green hydrogen and ammonia for clean energy applications and carbon-neutral fertilizer production as well as making these products accessible and affordable for farmers globally.
Speaking about the partnership, Mostafa Terrab, Chairman and CEO of OCP Group, emphasized the commitment to decarbonization and the development of cutting-edge facilities for renewable energy products and technology.
He highlighted the importance of this venture in addressing global food security and combating climate change simultaneously.
On his part, Dr Andrew Forrest AO, Fortescue Executive Chair and Founder expressed excitement about building a globally competitive platform for green energy production and industrial development in Morocco.
He emphasized Morocco’s potential as a key player in the global energy transition, given its abundant wind and solar resources.
Mark Hutchinson, CEO of Fortescue Energy, emphasized the alignment of ambitions between OCP and Fortescue, aiming to create one of the world’s leading integrated renewable energy and manufacturing enterprises in Morocco.

The partnership is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, marking a significant step forward in sustainable energy production and technology development on a global scale.
