UAE – The Emirati recycled plastic trading platform, Rebound, has entered into a partnership with the Circular Packaging Association to advance standardization efforts for plastics recyclates.
Unveiled at the 28th Conference of Parties, this collaboration aims to propel the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the global community toward a convergence of material standards.
At the core of this partnership is a commitment to developing data analytics and insights, with a specific focus on material volume estimates in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region and the UAE.
Rebound, as a Knowledge Partner to the Circular Packaging Association, will contribute valuable insights on global recycled plastics quality and infrastructure.
Encompassing both food-grade and non-food-grade materials, this collaboration is designed to ensure the advancement and accessibility of high-quality recycled plastics.
CPA chair Priya Sarma said: “We firmly believe that collaboration is not only crucial but integral to achieving a circular economy. Our partnership with Rebound will leverage the expertise of our organizations to accelerate the adoption of sustainable packaging solutions, paving the way for a more sustainable future.”
Maryam Al Mansoori, General Manager at Rebound, expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the dedication of Rebound and the Circular Packaging Association to achieving sustainable packaging solutions.
The partnership aims to leverage expertise in global trade facilitation, driving collective efforts toward sustainable solutions and accelerating the establishment of a common standard for materials on a global scale.
This step is crucial in fostering a circular economy that advocates sustainable practices, contributing to a healthier planet for future generations.
Meanwhile in 2022, Rebound introduced a global business-to-business (B2B) digital trading platform for recycled plastics called the Rebound Plastic Exchange (RPX).
This platform facilitates transparent trading of recycled plastic between buyers and sellers worldwide, featuring specification sheets personalized for each listing available on the RPX B2B marketplace.
These sheets, endorsed by plastic recycling organization RECOUP, were developed by a group of industry experts.
According to a Zaywa report, RPX has the potential to enable the recycling of five million tonnes of plastics by 2025.
The platform is intended to help tackle challenges in plastic waste reduction by transferring plastics from regions with insufficient recycling facilities to those with insufficient feedstock.
Several major companies from various regions, including the Middle East, North America, Latin America, India, South-East Asia and Europe, have reportedly subscribed to the platform.
