SABIC opens new ULTE Resin manufacturing plant in Singapore

SINGAPORE – SABIC, a global leader in diversified chemicals, has inaugurated its first advanced specialty chemical manufacturing facility in Singapore.

This new plant, which will cost US$170 million (S$220m), will produce ULTEM resin, a high-performance thermoplastic widely used in high-tech and manufacturing industries, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Singapore facility represents a strategic move to increase SABIC’s global ULTEM™ resin production by over 50%, meeting the growing demand from industries across Asia, including markets in Japan and China.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Low Yen Ling, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), Khalid Al-Dabbagh, Chairman of SABIC’s Board of Directors, SABIC CEO Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh, and Omar Al-Harthi, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Singapore.

Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), this new facility emphasizes SABIC’s commitment to localizing a reliable supply of high-performance materials capable of meeting complex supply chain demands.

Minister Low Yen Ling highlighted Singapore’s role as a hub for the energy and chemicals sector, stating, “The opening of SABIC’s facility reinforces Singapore’s position as a leader in this industry, equipping us to serve the fast-evolving demands of Asia’s high-tech sectors.”

SABIC’s CEO, Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh, expressed excitement about the company’s expansion in Singapore, “This new ULTEM™ resin facility reflects our commitment to the region’s high-tech economies and advanced manufacturing. Singapore’s extensive trade network also offers us competitive access to regional markets.”

Lim Len, Executive Vice President of the Singapore EDB, emphasized the significance of SABIC’s investment, saying, “SABIC’s new plant reflects confidence in Singapore as a hub for high-performance specialty chemicals in Asia.

“We look forward to seeing how this advanced manufacturing capability will bolster our chemicals sector to meet the needs of growing industries such as mobility and electronics.

“We welcome like-minded partners to invest in our talent and capabilities to create cutting-edge material solutions for the world.”

This facility not only strengthens SABIC’s regional presence but also supports Singapore’s broader vision for innovation and growth in advanced manufacturing.
