NIGERIA – Nestlé Nigeria has introduced eco-friendly packaging for its popular cereal, Golden Morn, as part of its commitment to sustainability and local economic growth.

Omofasa Orhiunu, Nestlé’s Category Manager for Dairy, made the announcement at the “Rebirth of the King of Breakfast” event in Lagos.

“This is not just a new look; it’s a testament to our commitment to supporting Nigerian farmers and reducing our environmental footprint,” Orhiunu stated.

He emphasized that the new packaging reflects Nestlé’s dedication to sourcing ingredients locally, ensuring both freshness and quality while contributing to the Nigerian economy.

“By investing in our local economy, we empower our farmers and contribute to sustainable growth,” he added.

Victoria Uwadoka, Nestlé’s Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, and Sustainability Lead, highlighted the company’s focus on supporting farmers through various initiatives, including technical assistance and seed funding to improve their livelihoods.

“Our approach emphasizes developing value chains that increase farmers’ incomes and enhance their quality of life,” she remarked.

Uwadoka also noted that Nestlé’s sustainability strategy is built around three pillars: individuals, communities, and the planet.

This approach is designed to create shared value in Nigeria. She added that the new recyclable packaging aligns with Nestlé’s global objectives of minimizing environmental impact and fostering a circular economy.

“Nestlé collaborates with the Enterprise Development Centre of Pan-Atlantic University to empower young farmers through our agripreneur series. We are nurturing the next generation of innovative farmers,” Uwadoka explained.

Boladale Odunlami, Nestlé’s Commercial Manager, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economy.

“As we unveil our new packaging, we reaffirm our commitment to nourishing Nigeria and supporting local communities,” Odunlami stated.

In 2020, Nestlé relaunched its Golden Morn brand in modern stand-up pouch packaging. The company has remained committed to meaningfully improving Nigeria’s nutrition profile and the growth of the national economy.

“Nestlé Golden Morn, a product created in Nigeria by Nigerians, is produced with 100% locally sourced agricultural and packaging materials,” Odunlami noted.

“Local sourcing is not only a smart business decision to ensure supply; it also contributes to transforming small and medium-scale businesses involved in Nestlé’s value chain, either directly or indirectly.”

“Our business model is built on the belief that long-term profitability is achieved by creating value for shareholders and society, particularly in the communities where we operate—a concept we call Creating Shared Value (CSV),” he concluded.
