Schreiner MediPharm partners Bluesight to introduce Smart RFID Labels

A new development in pharmaceutical packaging is improving safety and efficiency in healthcare.

USA – Schreiner MediPharm, in collaboration with Bluesight, has introduced advanced RFID-Labels designed to integrate with KitCheck Scanning Stations, streamlining drug tracking in hospitals across North America.

These RFID-Labels enable precise identification of medications, capturing essential data like batch numbers, expiration dates, and signs of tampering.

According to industry experts, the labels are built for durability, resisting mechanical damage and functioning reliably in high-speed labeling systems.

They adhere effectively to small-radius containers such as vials and syringes, and include features like hangers, removable documentation labels, and tamper-evident seals.

Sebastian Münscher, senior product manager at Schreiner MediPharm, stated, “Standardized RFID labeling improves workflow and reduces medication errors, enhancing patient safety.”

The labels are compatible with Bluesight’s KitCheck systems, used by 900 hospitals in North America to track over 325 million units of injectable emergency and anesthetic drugs.

The system’s automated scanning ensures real-time data collection, minimizing human error in inventory management.

The digital first-opening indication feature further enhances security by monitoring container integrity at the unit level.

In addition, Schreiner MediPharm has launched a Smart Syringe Box for clinical trials, enabling digital tracking and temperature monitoring of syringes.

This solution integrates technology to ensure accurate data collection during research, setting a new standard for clinical trial efficiency.

A recent report highlights the growing adoption of RFID technology in healthcare.

For instance, Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston has implemented RFID systems to streamline medication tracking, reducing a complex 12-step process to a two-step workflow, saving time and reducing errors.

This trend is driven by stricter regulations on drug traceability and the need for efficient supply chain management, with the global smart labels market projected to grow from US$14.67 billion in 2024 to US$42.36 billion by 2034.
