Schreiner MediPharm unveils smart syringe box to boost precision in clinical trials

Each syringe is housed in a perforated cardboard compartment that allows easy, controlled access.

GERMANY – Schreiner MediPharm, a specialist in pharmaceutical labeling and anti-counterfeiting solutions, has launched its latest innovation—the Smart Syringe Box—to improve accuracy, traceability, and efficiency in clinical trials.

The connected packaging solution is designed to address persistent challenges in trial logistics, such as dosing errors, manual data entry, and temperature-sensitive drug monitoring.

At the heart of the Smart Syringe Box is its integrated electronic system, which enables real-time tracking and automatic documentation of syringe removal during clinical studies.

Each syringe is housed in a perforated cardboard compartment that allows easy, controlled access.

Once a syringe is removed, the action is precisely recorded and timestamped, with the data seamlessly transmitted via NFC, Bluetooth, or a smartphone app to a secure database. This ensures accurate, tamper-proof tracking of drug administration across trial sites.

For trials involving biologics and other temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, the Smart Syringe Box offers an optional temperature-monitoring feature.

This enables continuous oversight of storage and transport conditions, adding another layer of quality control to the cold chain.

“The solution’s optional temperature monitoring feature provides an additional layer of safety and accuracy — allowing for the seamless documentation of temperature-critical biopharmaceuticals and other cold chain-dependent drugs during transportation and storage,” says Schreiner MediPharm.

The importance of connected medical packaging like the Smart Syringe Box is growing, particularly as global clinical trials become more decentralized and complex.

Conventional, manual methods of recording medication usage are not only time-consuming but also prone to human error. Such discrepancies can distort trial outcomes and delay regulatory approvals.

By eliminating manual documentation, Schreiner’s digital solution helps reduce non-adherence, enhance data integrity, and cut down on costly rework or failed studies.

The streamlined process supports faster, more reliable trial conclusions—benefiting pharmaceutical companies, regulators, and ultimately, patients.

Recognized for its innovation, the Smart Syringe Box received the 2025 FINAT Innovation Award, highlighting its potential to reshape how clinical trials are conducted.

As precision, traceability, and patient safety become paramount in drug development, connected packaging solutions like Schreiner MediPharm’s Smart Syringe Box are poised to play a central role in the future of medical packaging and digital health compliance.
