The Truepress LABEL 520AQ brings SCREEN’s proven water-based inkjet expertise to label production, delivering offset print quality with the efficiency

EUROPE – Screen Europe has introduced the Truepress LABEL 520AQ, a conceptual digital label press featuring water-based inkjet technology, set to debut at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, from September 16-19.
This proof-of-concept press aims to help label converters improve efficiency and tap into new markets while addressing the growing demand for sustainable packaging.
The Truepress LABEL 520AQ achieves printing speeds of up to 100 meters per minute on a 520mm media width, with a 508mm printable area.
According to Carlo Sammarco, business development director of packaging at Screen Europe, the press enables converters to boost throughput and meet the need for high-quality, eco-friendly labels.
It delivers a 1,200 x 1,200 DPI resolution, ensuring sharp text, precise lines, and smooth color gradations comparable to offset printing, while offering the flexibility of digital systems.
Equipped with Screen’s Equios workflow software and proprietary raster image processing, the press ensures accurate registration at high speeds.
It uses Truepress SC+ Inks, which provide a wide color gamut, consistent high-density coverage, and low odor, making it suitable for sustainable production.
The system allows converters to offload standard jobs, freeing up specialized equipment for complex tasks, thus improving overall productivity.
The press supports larger-format labels, opening opportunities in new packaging formats. It also enables advanced variable data printing, such as QR codes, barcodes, and personalized designs, catering to diverse customer needs.
Early trials suggest potential in specialized sectors like pharmaceutical and agrochemical labeling, as well as wet-glue labels, with Screen collaborating with technology partners to explore these markets.
In a statement, Sammarco emphasized that the Truepress LABEL 520AQ helps converters address rising production costs while maintaining premium output.
The press’s water-based inks comply with European food safety regulations, supporting sustainable packaging goals.
Recent industry updates indicate growing interest in water-based inkjet solutions. For instance, Fujifilm will showcase its Jet Press FP790, a water-based digital inkjet press for flexible packaging, at Labelexpo Europe 2025.
Labelexpo Europe 2025, hosting over 600 exhibitors, will feature live demonstrations of such innovations, offering converters a chance to explore cutting-edge solutions.
