Silgan Dispensing expands ERA platform with airless systems and new tube formats

USA – Silgan Dispensing has expanded its ERA dispensing platform, extending the system into airless packaging and introducing new tube sizes aimed at cosmetic and personal care brands seeking improved product protection, dosing precision and recyclability.

Initially launched in 2025 for facial and sun care applications in 30mm and 40mm tube formats, the ERA platform has now been integrated with Silgan’s DNA airless technology.

The resulting DNA 35ERA system is designed for products such as facial serums, creams and premium skincare formulations, and is available in 30ml, 40ml and 50ml sizes.

According to Silgan Dispensing, the airless ERA solution is aligned with emerging regulatory and sustainability expectations in the beauty sector.

Key features include controlled actuation, compatibility with a wide range of formulations, and precise dosing to support premium product positioning.

The airless system also delivers a reported product evacuation rate of more than 95%, helping to minimize residual product and reduce overall packaging waste.

In parallel, Silgan has adapted the ERA platform for smaller-capacity cosmetic tubes, introducing 25mm and 30mm diameter formats aimed at liquid makeup, spot treatments and targeted skincare products.

These sizes respond to growing demand for compact, travel-friendly and precision-oriented packaging solutions in the beauty and wellness markets.

Both the airless and tube-based ERA formats incorporate Silgan Dispensing’s LifeCycle technology, which replaces traditional metal springs with plastic components.

This design change improves recyclability and supports mono-material or simplified material streams, addressing a common challenge in dispensing packaging.

Silgan Dispensing supplies a broad portfolio of dispensing solutions, including pumps, sprayers, triggers and closures, serving consumer goods companies across the home care, health and beauty sectors.

The expansion of the ERA platform reflects wider industry efforts to balance functionality, sustainability and evolving regulatory requirements, particularly in Europe and North America.

Replay refill system

The latest ERA developments build on Silgan’s recent innovation activity in refillable packaging. In 2023, the company introduced Replay, an all-plastic, recyclable refill system using its patented LifeCycle technology.

Replay is designed to allow consumers to refill a bottle in approximately 20 seconds, with an automatic shut-off feature once refilling is complete.

Replay is compatible with a wide range of bottle sizes, from samplers and travel packs to full retail formats, and can be supplied with or without an overcap for added hygiene or transport security.

Silgan says the system addresses persistent consumer frustrations with refill solutions, which are often criticized for being messy, difficult to use and limited in availability.

As brands increasingly explore refill and airless packaging strategies, Silgan Dispensing’s expanded ERA platform positions the company to support premiumization and sustainability goals across the fast-evolving beauty packaging landscape.
