The company’s broader strategy includes a planned split into two independent companies, with North American operations remaining under International Paper while EMEA packaging businesses form a separate entity.

CalRecycle’s draft regulations have broadened exemptions for FDA- and USDA-regulated packaging, including dairy products, raising concerns that the law could lose up to half its funding.

The two companies will collaborate from the initial raw material design stage to develop packaging that strengthens cold and heat resistance properties.

The packaging is manufactured using food-safe RPET containing 70% recycled content, offering high clarity for product visibility while remaining lightweight at approximately 11g.

The facility will produce up to 10 categories of aluminium foil products for the packaging, pharmaceutical, food service and industrial sectors.

The PPWR sets three-tier PFAS limits for food contact packaging from 12 August 2026: 25 ppb for any individual PFAS, 250 ppb for the sum of PFAS, and 50 ppm for all PFAS including polymeric PFAS.

Packaging from participating brands, including Mondelez, Ferrero and PepsiCo, is being placed on Belgian shelves.

The study also found that chemical recycling will be complementary to advanced mechanical recycling, with each targeting different fractions of the flexible waste stream and different end-uses, particularly multi-material films for food-contact applications.

Under the proposed framework, each manufacturer of printed pharmaceutical packaging will be required to obtain a registration certificate and a unique registration number through a government portal, which will be printed on every pharmaceutical package.

The Paper-Plug concept is designed as a modular solution for dry and frozen foods, ingredients, health products, home care and cleaning products, refill and reuse systems, as well as premium cartons and hybrid board formats.
