THAILAND – Valmet will supply a Valmet IQ quality control system to Thai Containers Group’s corrugated containers plant in Rayong, Thailand.
This installation marks a significant step toward enhancing the plant’s quality and productivity. Scheduled to start in Q1 2025, the system will reduce waste caused by warped boards and improve overall efficiency. The value of the order remains undisclosed.
The collaboration between Valmet and Thai Containers Group, which began in 2020, has been a resounding success.
The Valmet IQ quality management system was successfully implemented at the Ratchaburi plant, leading to repeat orders for the Navanakorn, Orient Container, and Chonburi plants.
The Rayong plant order is a testament to Thai Containers Group’s trust in Valmet’s solutions.
The comprehensive delivery includes key components of the Valmet IQ quality control system. These include Valmet IQ Warp Measurement, a Valmet IQ Moisturizer with three spray booms, and Valmet IQ Multipoint Moisture and Temperature Measurements, including Microwave moisture measurement.
These components are integrated through automatic closed-loop controls for seamless and efficient operation.
The Valmet IQ system combines online moisture, temperature, and warp measurements to control all corrugated board types, reducing sheet warping, improving bonding, and maximizing plant performance.
Moisture level control of the final product is crucial to eliminate post-warping and cracking in converting.
Thai Containers Group, a collaboration between Rengo Co., Ltd, and SCGP, operates 29 fiber-based packaging plants across Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Valmet is a leading global developer and supplier of process technologies, automation, and services for the pulp, paper, and energy industries.
Converting lines to Metsä Tissue’s Mill
In a separate development, Valmet secured an order to supply two complete tissue converting lines and packaging machinery to Metsä Tissue’s mill in Mariestad, Sweden.
The order follows a previous Valmet Advantage DCT 200 tissue-making line delivery to the same facility.
This order is part of Metsä Tissue’s ‘The Future Mill’ project, which aims to enhance environmental and operational performance. Valmet will also provide digital services, training, and support after the start-up.
Esa Paavolainen, Metsä Tissue project vice-president, stated, “We have a long history with Valmet, and with the addition of converting technologies to their portfolio, we clearly see the synergies with Valmet’s end-to-end solution, including tissue machines and converting lines.
“Their cutting-edge technologies and proven performance will ensure optimal production, a safer working environment, and more efficient tissue production.”
The delivery will include two Valmet Perini Constellation tissue-converting lines and the required packaging machinery for rolled tissue production.
These lines are designed for efficiency, flexibility, and low energy consumption. The order is recorded in Valmet’s first-quarter 2024 orders received, with financial details undisclosed.
Gianfranco Agnusdei, VP of Sales, Marketing, and Services at Valmet Tissue Converting business unit, Paper business line, said, “This is one of Valmet’s first projects implementing the complete value chain, combining a Valmet tissue-making line and converting technologies. It’s a unique offering in the market. We are proud to be part of Metsä Tissue’s expansion journey.”
