The partners plan to leverage their respective strengths to enable brands to lower their dependence on single-use plastics.

SWEDEN – PulPac, a pioneer in sustainable packaging, has formed a strategic alliance with Swedish start-up Future Materials Sweden to advance fiber-based alternatives to single-use plastics.
The collaboration harnesses PulPac’s patented Dry Molded Fiber technology, which enables the creation of packaging with extensive design flexibility while keeping environmental effects low.
Future Materials Sweden brings its background in plastic injection molding and tool production to the table, helping to adapt these skills for fiber materials.
The partnership focuses on expanding production capabilities for items like trays, cups, and closures that use renewable fibers instead of fossil-based plastics.
According to industry observers, such moves help cut reliance on non-recyclable materials, with Dry Molded Fiber processes using far less water and energy than conventional methods.
Morgan Svensson, founder of Future Materials Sweden, stated that the tie-up would “contribute to the transformation of the packaging industry” through combined expertise.
Consumers increasingly seek eco-friendly options, turning sustainability into a key market driver. Fiber-based products offer brands a way to meet these expectations with practical, scalable solutions.
Sanna Fager, PulPac’s chief commercial officer, noted that the technology extends well beyond food packaging, where it has gained solid uptake.
She added that joint efforts like this one enable exploration of new areas responsibly.
In early 2025, the company worked with SIG to create paper-based closures for aseptic cartons, aiming to lower water usage in molding and decrease CO2 emissions by up to 70% per unit.
The closures, produced at a cost of about $0.02 each, integrate seamlessly with existing carton lines.
PulPac also made strides in Asia last month, as its licensee HZ Green Pulp launched commercial output of Dry Molded Fiber coffee lids in Malaysia.
These lids, priced at around $0.015 per piece, now reach local cafes and retailers, replacing plastic versions that previously dominated the market.
In April, PulPac’s Modula machine, supplied by TechTribe, passed site acceptance testing for Nippon Molding in Japan.
This step introduced the technology to the country’s poultry sector, where it produces egg trays at a rate of 10,000 units per hour, using 90% less water than foam alternatives.
In the Middle East, similar efforts are underway, with Dubai-based Emirates Packaging launching a US$5 million facility in October 2025 for molded fiber containers tailored to food delivery services.
The plant produces 500,000 units daily, drawing on European tech partnerships to slash plastic waste in urban logistics.
A company executive mentioned that the facility would “meet rising demand for compostable packaging in the Gulf.”
