The Integrated Nonstop Unwind allows customers to run for longer without interruption.

UK – A B Graphic International (ABG) has expanded its finishing and converting portfolio with the launch of its Integrated Nonstop Unwind, a system engineered to enable continuous production while reducing floor space and operator intervention.
Designed for both blank web converting and pre-printed material applications, the Integrated Nonstop Unwind delivers splice registration accuracy of ±2mm.
The system is built around ABG’s established unwinder and butt-splicer sub-assemblies, leveraging proven technology to provide reliability and ease of integration for converters seeking to upgrade existing lines.
Unlike conventional standalone nonstop units, the new system is fully integrated into the converter’s control platform, simplifying operation and reducing the equipment footprint by more than three metres of floor space.
The compact design is expected to appeal to converters aiming to increase throughput without expanding production facilities.
The Integrated Nonstop Unwind is compatible with ABG’s Digicon Series and ABG Converters operating at 330mm, 440mm and 540mm web widths, with wider-web options currently under evaluation.
When paired with ABG’s Vectra turret rewinder, the system forms a fully nonstop configuration that supports continuous operation and minimal downtime.
In parallel, ABG is introducing a Matrix Turret that incorporates its Automated Matrix Stripping (AMS) device. The innovation enables true nonstop operation without requiring a separate extraction system.
Featuring an integrated face-cutting station capable of clean cutting across various substrates, the Matrix Turret automatically performs roll changes once the rewind roll is full, allowing production to proceed uninterrupted.
By combining nonstop unwinding, automated matrix stripping and automated roll changeover, ABG is positioning the solution as a route to longer, more stable production runs, improved overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and smoother workflows.
“Converters are under increasing pressure to do more with fewer operators, while still maintaining output and quality,” said Matt Burton, global sales director at ABG.
“The Integrated Nonstop Unwind has been developed using proven ABG technology and, when combined with our automation and matrix stripping solutions, allows customers to run for longer without interruption.
“It’s a practical solution that improves efficiency, reduces operator involvement and helps converters get the most from their finishing lines.”
The launch reflects a broader trend in the narrow-web and label converting sector toward higher levels of automation, modular upgrades and space-efficient retrofits, as converters seek productivity gains amid labour constraints and rising operational costs.
