The project will enable APC to produce a broader portfolio of preformed pouches with enhanced visual and functional features

USA – American Packaging Corporation (APC), a leader in flexible packaging solutions, has unveiled plans to expand its pouching capabilities at its Story City, Iowa Center of Excellence.
The project, set to break ground in October 2025 and conclude by September 2026, will highlight APC’s commitment to meeting the surging demand for innovative and sustainable packaging across North America.
In a statement, APC CEO and President Ray Graham emphasized the strategic importance of the expansion.
“American Packaging is uniquely positioned to meet the growing demand for pouches and bags for a wide variety of applications,” Graham said.
“Our customers can find the perfect combination of packaging materials, printing, and special features to elevate their products.”
The expansion will enhance APC’s ability to deliver customized solutions, including stand-up pouches and bags, tailored to industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and pet care.
The Story City facility, renowned for its award-winning flexographic printing, will see a substantial increase in capacity and technological advancements.
According to APC Operations Director Kevin Neis, “Our Story City Center of Excellence delivers vivid graphics with eye-catching shelf appeal that our customers value. We are thrilled to expand our pouching capacity and capability to better serve the market.”
The project will introduce state-of-the-art equipment, enabling APC to produce a broader portfolio of preformed pouches with enhanced visual and functional features, such as resealable zippers.
This US$30-million investment in Iowa reflects APC’s forward-thinking approach to addressing the projected 4.5% growth in the North American flexible packaging market through 2029.
Earlier this year, the company announced that the Science Based Targets initiative validated its goal to reduce scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 58.8% by 2034, using 2023 as the baseline.
In a related development, APC recently introduced a second digital printing unit at its Wisconsin Center of Excellence, enhancing its capacity for short-run and on-demand printing.
The facility boasts best-in-class equipment for digital printing, laminating, precision coating, and pouch-making.
Founded in 1902, the family-owned company operates six Centers of Excellence across the U.S., employing approximately 1,300 professionals dedicated to innovation and customer satisfaction.
