MCC’s recycLABEL earns top APR recognition for seamless PET recycling

The APR recognized MCC’s recycLABEL cPET Roll-Fed Label as meeting or exceeding the APR PET-CG-01 Critical Guidance Protocol for PET Rigid Containers.

USA – Multi-Color Corporation (MCC), a leading provider of premium label solutions worldwide, has achieved a key certification for its recycLABEL cPET Roll-Fed Label.

The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) granted Design Recognition, confirming the label meets the strictest recyclability standards outlined in the APR Design Guide for Plastics Recyclability.

This approval verifies compatibility with PET recycling streams under the PET-CG-01 Critical Guidance Protocol for PET Rigid Containers.

Laboratory tests on the submitted samples showed the label supports higher yields of recycled PET (rPET) without disrupting the process.

Bottles can now enter recycling facilities with the labels attached, simplifying operations for converters and material recovery plants.

The single-layer construction of the recycLABEL allows inks to wash off cleanly during processing, preserving rPET clarity and quality for reuse in new packaging.

Beyond recyclability, the label cuts production downtime through practical design features. Its thinner gauge and robust polymer base fit more units per reel, stretching intervals between changeovers.

Manufacturers report fewer stoppages, which translates to higher output over shifts, weeks, and annual cycles.

One facility manager noted that this setup has increased line speeds by up to 15% without added equipment.

The film thickness drops carbon emissions during production, while shifting away from traditional polymers by 37% lessens dependence on fossil fuels.

This setup feeds directly into circular systems, where waste from one cycle becomes input for the next.

MCC integrates the recycLABEL into its broader CARE Collection, a lineup of tools designed to help brands track and advance their packaging sustainability targets.

Megan McGrory, MCC’s Sustainability Manager for North America, said the certification “validates our work toward a circular economy and aids brands in navigating regulatory shifts.”

She added that the product delivers real efficiency alongside environmental benefits, making it easier for companies to scale green practices.
