VPK Group increases stake to 50% in UK corrugated specialist ribble packaging

The deal gives VPK joint control following the Belgian company’s initial minority investment in 2023.

UK – Belgian packaging provider VPK Group has agreed to raise its ownership in UK-based corrugated cardboard producer Ribble Packaging from 30% to 50%.

This move establishes joint control with Ribble’s current shareholders and builds on VPK’s initial minority investment in 2023.

The agreement expands VPK’s fanfold packaging capabilities across Europe. Fanfold consists of continuous corrugated board with pre-scored folds that operators cut to custom lengths.

This format gains popularity in e-commerce and logistics sectors because it adjusts to different product sizes, reduces material waste, and improves transport efficiency.

VPK already operates fanfold production at sites in Alizay, France, and the Zetacarton facility in Senna, Italy.

The company owns paper mills in Belgium and France that supply recycled paper, supporting its vertically integrated operations.

Ribble Managing Director Stephen Rector said the new 50/50 joint venture “unlocks the full potential of the Ribble/VPK partnership and will facilitate and support continued sustainable growth, innovation and enhanced service for our customers.”

He added that Ribble’s organization, strategy, and daily operations stay the same.

VPK Group CEO Pierre Macharis noted that Ribble has made substantial investments in recent years.

With over 80 years of experience, including 30 years in fanfold production, Ribble has become a top player in the UK market.

Macharis explained that the deeper partnership allows VPK to better meet growing demand for right-sized packaging among e-commerce operators and distribution centers throughout Europe.

In related developments, VPK Group reported a turnover of US$2.1 billion in 2024 and invested US$185.8 million that year.

The company expanded its fanfold operations across Europe and integrated the Iberian Arteche Group into its Corex division.

Earlier in 2025, VPK appointed Patrick Leclercq as divisional CEO for its corrugated board unit in July.

These steps enable VPK to provide efficient, sustainable packaging solutions that minimize waste and support circular economy practices in the fast-evolving e-commerce sector.
