UK – Tapes & labels manufacturer, Windmill Tapes & Labels has installed AB Graphic International’s Digicon 3 print finishing series into its production line, with specific customization made for specialized peel-and-reveal (P&R) work to take advantage of the expanding vape market.
Previously, Windmill produced a single-layer P&R label in a three-step process in which the base layer was printed first, followed by lamination and finishing.
The Digicon 3 is expected to optimize efficiency by streamlining the process into a single print with its advanced re-registration abilities.
The series can also produce double-sided P&R labels, in which a base print comes with a silicone release and a dual-printed top layer on both the front and adhesive reverse side.
This configuration is in high demand in the vape market, with Windmill now hoping to gain a competitive advantage in the sector.
Two screen units have also been added in a bid to optimize its operational flexibility and help the company plan and enhance service delivery for its customer base.

“In anticipation, we had readied a new 6000 sqft mezzanine area, which with ABG’s assistance, transitioning of all three of our Digicons to a designated finishing zone under the mezzanine was flawless.”

In another development, Fujifilm’s Acuity Prime Hybrid printer seeks to meet the needs of print service providers working with a range of rigid and flexible material applications.
Using the same highly pigmented inks as the previous Acuity Prime model, the Acuity Prime Hybrid is available with CMYK as standard, with small ink droplet sizes, Greenguard Gold certified ink, and pinpoint placement thought to produce a high-quality print with no loss of colour, even when printing at high speeds.
The Acuity Prime Hybrid can print on substrates up to 2m in width when used as a flatbed machine. It can also produce print at production quality from 92m2 per hour on materials such as foamboard, polyester, acrylic, and Dibond.
