GERMANY – XSYS, a global leader in integrated solutions for the flexographic, letterpress, and pre-press printing industries, has successfully acquired MacDermid Graphics Solutions (MGS) from Element Solutions Inc.
The deal, which was initially signed on September 1, 2024, has now received full regulatory approval, marking a major consolidation in the global print and packaging sector.
With the completion of this transaction, XSYS and MGS will merge their capabilities to form one of the most comprehensive and influential businesses in the printing solutions market.
The combined company will employ around 850 people globally and is expected to generate approximately €370 million annual revenues.
Dr. Alexander Unterschuetz, Group CEO of XSYS, hailed the acquisition as a transformational step forward for the company and its customers.
“We are excited to announce the completion of this transformative combination and to join forces with our new MGS colleagues,” said Dr. Unterschuetz.
“This transaction creates significant value and opportunities due to the complementarity of both businesses’ product portfolio, services, and employees, thus making us a more complete solution provider for our customers.”
The integration of MGS brings a broader portfolio of printing plates, equipment, and services to XSYS, enhancing its ability to serve customers with end-to-end solutions across key segments in packaging and label printing.
Both companies have built strong reputations for innovation, technical expertise, and customer-focused service, and the merger is expected to amplify these strengths.
According to XSYS, the combined technical support teams will be key in driving future innovation and customer satisfaction.
“This, together with the strengthened knowledge and resources of our dedicated technical support teams, will enable us to deliver even better products and services to our customers, who are at the centre of everything we do,” Dr. Unterschuetz emphasized.
The move comes at a time when the flexographic and packaging industries are experiencing rapid shifts, driven by sustainability goals, digital transformation, and changing consumer preferences.
With its expanded global footprint and enhanced capabilities, the new XSYS-MGS entity is well-positioned to support customers navigating these trends and growing demands for high-quality, efficient, and eco-friendly print solutions.
This acquisition not only strengthens XSYS’s market leadership but also signals ongoing consolidation in the printing sector as companies seek scale, synergies, and innovation-driven growth.
