CVC Capital Partners acquires Italian packaging automation specialist Clevertech

The partnership between CVC and the Reggiani family is structured to preserve the company’s entrepreneurial culture while providing the capital and strategic guidance needed to accelerate growth.

ITALY – CVC Capital Partners has acquired Italian packaging automation leader Clevertech from the Reggiani family, with the founding family reinvesting as a minority shareholder to support the company’s global expansion and innovation drive.

Clevertech Group, headquartered in Cadelbosco di Sopra within Italy’s “Packaging Valley,” reported revenue of €236 million (US$269.3 million) and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation of over €70 million (US$79.9 million) in 2025. 

The company employs more than 450 professionals, operates production sites in Italy, the USA and Asia, and exports its engineering expertise to advanced markets worldwide.

According to market sources, the transaction values Clevertech at an enterprise value of approximately €800 million (US$912 million). 

CVC will invest through its CVC Capital Partners IX fund, with the deal’s completion expected by the end of 2026.

Engineer Giuseppe Reggiani, founder, will continue as chairman and CEO, with Umberto Reggiani as chief sales director, Enrico Reggiani as chief financial director and Simone Cervi as chief technology officer. 

REFA, the Reggiani family holding company, will reinvest a minority stake alongside CVC, ensuring continuity in management and strategy execution. 

The company generated approximately €250 million (US$285 million) in 2024 before achieving its 2025 performance. 

Reggiani stated that the partnership provides resources to consolidate and accelerate Clevertech’s growth while maintaining the innovation drive that has always distinguished the company.

End-of-Line Automation Expertise and CVC’s Growth Ambition

Clevertech designs advanced secondary and tertiary packaging systems, including palletisers, case packers, wrappers and depalletisers, serving the food and beverage, home care, pet food and personal care sectors. 

In a reference project, Clevertech helped a Dutch distillery double throughput from 110 to 225 bottles per minute while cutting changeover times from 30 to seven minutes using Beckhoff’s XTS linear transport system. 

CVC partner Giorgio De Palma stated that the acquisition supports international expansion and investments in innovation, with the goal of delivering increasingly advanced solutions to leading industry customers across multiple continents.

Clevertech’s customer base includes many of the world’s largest food, beverage and consumer goods manufacturers, who rely on the company’s robust, high-speed packaging lines to maintain production efficiency in their global operations.
