Specialized Packaging Group acquires DFW Crating to expand Texas footprint

USA – Specialized Packaging Group has acquired Dallas-Fort Worth-based DFW Crating & Packaging, adding custom crate production and protective packaging capabilities while extending its reach across the Texas industrial corridor.

The acquisition brings DFW’s established custom crate manufacturing into SPG’s broader protective packaging offering, which already includes server rack crating and other tailored solutions. 

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. 

DFW will continue trading under its existing name and operate from its Grand Prairie facility, preserving continuity for its customer base while gaining access to SPG’s wider operational network, resources and packaging functions.

Paul Budsworth, chief executive of SPG, said the acquisition represented an excellent strategic fit, noting that DFW had built a strong reputation on quality and customer service and that its crating capabilities complemented the existing portfolio. 

He added that the company was excited to welcome the DFW team and work together to create new opportunities for employees while delivering greater value to customers. 

Angela Mathews, owner and chief executive of DFW Crating, described the deal as an important milestone that provided a strong foundation for the next chapter of growth. 

She observed that the combined business would gain access to expanded capabilities and resources while continuing to build on the relationships and service that had been central to its success.

Texas Market Position Strengthened

The purchase gives SPG a foothold in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, one of the fastest-growing industrial and logistics hubs in the United States. 

Demand for protective and custom crating has risen sharply across the region, driven by expansion in semiconductor manufacturing, data centre construction, aerospace and advanced manufacturing. 

Server rack crating, a specialised SPG capability, aligns closely with the region’s technology and telecommunications sectors, where sensitive equipment requires engineered protection during transit and installation.

Austin Facility Complements Expanded Network

The acquisition follows SPG’s March opening of a manufacturing site in Austin, established to better serve customers across southern and mid-south regions of the United States. 

That facility specialises in corrugated and foam packaging, with an initial focus on the automotive and technology sectors. 

Together, the Austin plant and the newly acquired Grand Prairie operation create a complementary Texas footprint spanning central and northern markets. 

SPG has pursued a buy-and-build strategy across North America, targeting regional packaging businesses with specialised capabilities and entrenched customer relationships.

The DFW deal adds an experienced workforce and established client ties to that platform.
