Durst Group to acquire Dutch label printer maker MPS Printing

The acquisition is another step in Durst’s labels and flexible packaging push, where it combines digital printing, software, automation, and hybrid production.

NETHERLANDS – Durst Group has reached an agreement to purchase MPS Printing, a Netherlands-based producer of flexographic printing systems for the label and flexible packaging sector, with the transaction expected to close on 1 January 2027.

Following completion, MPS will trade as MPS – A Durst Group Company. The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory clearances, with financial terms undisclosed.

The acquisition marks another step in Durst’s plans for the labels and flexible packaging segment, where the company has pursued a strategy combining digital printing, software, automation and hybrid production capabilities.

Flexographic Expertise Widens Technology Base

MPS brings flexographic printing technology, engineering capability and application expertise to the group.

The transaction would widen Durst’s technology base, reduce development times and support quicker market introduction of systems linking digital and flexographic printing with software, automation and finishing.

This integration addresses growing converter demand for hybrid platforms capable of handling short runs, variable data and premium embellishment within a single production workflow, reducing the need for separate dedicated lines.

Management Team Retained as Operations Continue

From 1 January 2027, MPS will continue to develop, make and sell its current range of flexographic printing systems under its new name, with the current management team retained.

Michiel Borst, chief executive of MPS, will remain in charge of the business and take on the role of managing director of MPS – A Durst Group Company, reporting within the Durst Group management structure.

Leadership Cites Platform and Long-Term Perspective

Borst said MPS would retain its entrepreneurial approach, customer focus and commitment to flexographic innovation.

He added that becoming part of Durst Group gave the business access to a broader technology platform, a global organisation and the long-term perspective of a family-owned company, creating new opportunities for customers, partners and employees.

MPS’s direct sales network in Europe will continue unchanged, while Durst US will take over sales and service for the MPS portfolio in the United States.

MPS will also use Durst’s international service and spare-parts network to support customers in local markets.

OMET Partnership Continues Separately

Durst’s existing partnership with OMET will continue separately from the MPS deal. Durst and OMET jointly develop, produce and sell the KJet and XJet hybrid platforms, which combine flexographic printing, digital printing and finishing.

Christoph Gamper, chief executive and co-owner of Durst Group, said that with MPS, the company was adding further flexographic expertise, technology and engineering capabilities to the group, providing additional integration options and allowing complementary development paths to be pursued in parallel.
