NIGERIA – Weigang has installed an advanced multifunction offset press in Nigeria, combining eight offset printing units with die-cutting, cold foil, lamination, and UV varnishing for higher-value label production.
The press also incorporates Italian UV curing systems, Siemens controls, anti-static systems, corona treatment, and dual-side web cleaning technology.
Designed for converters seeking greater flexibility and process integration, the installation reflects a broader shift in emerging label markets towards integrated production technology that delivers premium decorative effects and improves operational efficiency.
The project represents another step in the adoption of advanced label production technologies within Africa’s developing packaging market, where converters are increasingly looking beyond basic production toward higher-value and more differentiated applications.
Integrated Cold Foil and Finishing for Premium Labels
Particularly in sectors such as beverages, personal care, and consumer packaging, demand is rising for labels featuring metallic decoration, tactile finishes, and multi-process applications.
By integrating cold foil, varnishing, lamination, and reverse-side functionality into one line, the configuration enables more complex label production with reduced handling and improved register stability.
Cold foil application allows metallic effects to be applied without the tooling costs of hot foil stamping, making short-run premium labels economical.
UV varnishing provides gloss, scuff resistance, and protection against moisture, essential for beverage labels exposed to ice buckets or condensation.
Automation and Stability Features
The press includes several automation and stability-focused features, including motor-controlled UV systems, BST inspection technology, RE tension control, and anti-static systems positioned throughout the production path to support consistent performance at higher operating speeds.
Weigang technical engineers completed both installation and operator training on-site, helping to ensure a stable production startup and knowledge transfer for local technical teams.
Anti-static systems are critical when printing on plastic films, where static charges can attract dust or cause mis-registration. BST inspection cameras verify print quality in real time, reducing waste from defect detection after the full roll is processed.
Weigang’s Growing Global Footprint
Weigang Technology Co., Ltd., founded in 1996 and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, serves over 6,000 factories across more than 100 countries and regions, supported by a global network of over 18 authorized distributors.
The company holds 38 invention patents, 56 utility model patents, and 33 software copyrights.
Its independently developed products include modular high-speed full-rotary offset presses, inline flexographic presses, and intermittent PS plate label offset presses, exported to markets including Germany, Italy, Russia, Japan, and the United States.
Perfect Packaging in Lagos, a long-standing Weigang customer, operates multiple Weigang ZJR flexo presses and is now preparing to commission its fifth press.
