Oji Group breaks ground on US$110M Vietnam aseptic carton plant

Packaging fits standard roll-fed bottling lines, existing equipment usable; buyers get cartons alone or bundled with consumables, fillers, support.

VIETNAM – Oji Group has broken ground on a US$110 million aseptic carton manufacturing facility in Vietnam i, establishing an operational base to support regional expansion across Southeast Asia through subsidiary Oji Liquid Pak.

The development covers 57,000 square metres in the Long Thanh High-tech Industrial Park. The plant, due to become operational in 2028, will make cartons for beverages and liquid food items.

When completed, it will have an annual production ceiling of eight billion units and employ more than 200 staff.

The launch event was attended by corporate delegates from Oji Group and Oji Liquid Pak, alongside representatives from the AMATA Industrial Zone, the Dong Nai Industrial Parks and Economic Zones Authority, and local commercial partners.

Compatible With Standard Roll-Fed Bottling Lines

The finished packaging works with standard commercial roll-fed bottling lines, enabling drink manufacturers to use existing factory apparatus.

Buyers can purchase cartons independently or acquire a combined setup incorporating consumables, filling machinery and technical assistance.

Offering equipment alongside packaging materials gives beverage producers a single supplier for both format and filling capability, simplifying qualification and reducing integration risk when switching to aseptic cartons.

Project Aligns With Vietnam EPR Rules

The project corresponds with Vietnam’s changing Extended Producer Responsibility rules and broader circular economy targets.

In parallel, Oji Group is working on aseptic carton collection and recycling schemes across Southeast Asia.

Aseptic cartons combine paperboard, polymer and aluminium layers, and recycling requires specialised separation infrastructure that remains limited in many regional markets, making collection scheme development a practical prerequisite for meeting recyclability obligations.

Combined Expertise Spans 150 Years of Operations

The operation combines over four decades of engineering practice from affiliated Italian firm IPI with Oji Group’s 150-year operating history across forestry, paper and waste reclamation.

Both entities function as sister subsidiaries under Oji Holdings, jointly providing packaging stock, machinery and servicing.

Kestutis Sliuzas, chief executive of Oji Liquid Pak, said the packaging industry was moving toward a new standard in which performance, food safety, operational flexibility and circularity needed to work together, adding that the company’s ambition was not simply to supply packaging materials but to help customers navigate the transition with solutions ready for the market today and adaptable to future requirements.

Terauchi Mikito, corporate officer at Oji Holdings, said Vietnam was an important market and an increasingly strategic manufacturing base within Southeast Asia, adding that the investment strengthened the company’s ability to serve customers in Vietnam and across the Asia-Pacific region.
