Albéa Group acquires Amfora Packaging to boost sustainable packaging portfolio

The cosmetics packaging company’s acquisition will expand its operation in the region beyond the US and Mexico

USA – Albéa Group, an eco-conscious cosmetic packaging company, has agreed to acquire a controlling stake in Amfora Packaging from U.S.-based private equity firm ACON Investments.

The financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, but the acquisition aligns with Albéa’s ambition to expand its footprint in the beauty and personal care packaging market.

Amfora Packaging, formed in 2015 through the merger of Colombia-based Intecplast and Peru-based Pieriplast, has emerged as a key player in the industry, supplying innovative packaging solutions for color cosmetics, skincare, personal care, and fragrances.

According to reports, Amfora’s growth under ACON’s stewardship has been remarkable, transforming two family-owned businesses into a unified, export-driven enterprise serving top-tier clients across Latin America, North America, and Europe.

“We are very proud of how Amfora’s team transformed and grew two independently managed, diverse family businesses into an institutionalized, export-oriented company,” said Alberto Hernandez, a partner at ACON Investments, in a statement.

“We believe the company is well-positioned for its next chapter of growth under Albéa’s stewardship.”

Bertrand de la Tour d’Artaise, Senior Vice President of Strategy and M&A at Albéa Group, emphasized the strategic fit, stating, “This acquisition is a strong milestone in our ambition to lead the beauty packaging industry across all key geographies.”

“ We couldn’t have found a better partner, our companies share a passion for customers, innovation, and a commitment to social responsibility.”

The acquisition strengthens Albéa’s presence in Latin America, complementing its existing operations in the U.S. and Mexico.

It also enhances Albéa’s ability to meet growing demand for localized, sustainable packaging solutions. Brigard Urrutia, Hogan Lovells, and Grant Thornton advised ACON during the transaction, ensuring a smooth process.

This deal follows ACON’s recent exit from another portfolio company, Vitalis S.A.C.I., acquired by Mexican pharmaceutical firm Sanfer earlier this year, highlighting ACON’s strategy of unlocking long-term value in high-potential businesses.

In a related development, Albéa continues to innovate in sustainable packaging.

A recent report highlighted Albéa’s collaboration with French cosmetics brand Clarins on the EcoLittle Top, a lightweight, recyclable flip-top closure system launched in 2024.

Additionally, in 2023, Albéa partnered with L’Occitane to redesign its 30ml hand cream packaging, incorporating an all-plastic laminate and a Greenleaf tube certified for recyclability.
