RWANDA – AUTO24 Rwanda, a prominent local car dealership, has introduced the Tesla Model Y onto Rwandan roads, following a campaign launched in late 2023 to encourage customers to transition from traditional gasoline-powered vehicles to electric ones.
The official presentation of the first two Tesla Model Y vehicles took place on March 22. Ivan Ruzibiza, AUTO24 Rwanda’s Country Manager, expressed the dealership’s commitment to embracing e-mobility, highlighting its significance in the future of transportation.
He also noted the government’s initiatives to promote electric vehicles and attract investments in this sector.
Ruzibiza emphasized the Tesla Model Y’s rapid rise to prominence within the electric vehicle sphere since its launch in 2019.
He praised its impressive driving range, cost-effectiveness, spacious interiors accommodating up to seven passengers, and advanced features, making it a favorite among electric vehicle enthusiasts worldwide.
In 2023, Tesla achieved a significant milestone by delivering 1.2 million units of the Model Y, surpassing the Toyota Corolla as the world’s top-selling vehicle for that year.
This success marked the first time an electric vehicle claimed this title, solidifying the Model Y’s status as one of the most sought-after electric vehicles in history.
Ruzibiza highlighted the numerous advantages of electric vehicles, including efficient energy consumption, reduced maintenance costs, superior driving experience, and remarkable performance.
He emphasized the environmental benefits of EVs and their contribution to Rwanda’s carbon credits.
Ernest Bugingo, the Automotive Commercial Director at AUTO24 Rwanda, underscored the global shift towards electric vehicles, with the Tesla Model Y leading the way.
He emphasized the importance of changing perceptions around brand-new and luxury vehicles, stating that such cars are accessible to everyone.
Bugingo described the Model Y’s launch as revolutionary, noting its similarities to the Model 3 and its appeal to a wider audience as an SUV.
