Berlin Packaging receives Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation for net-zero targets

This validation positions Berlin Packaging as one of the few companies globally with climate targets aligned to the most ambitious 1.5°C pathway.

BERLIN – Berlin Packaging, a packaging solutions supplier, has proudly announced that its science-based net-zero greenhouse gas emissions targets have been officially validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

This validation places Berlin Packaging in an elite group of companies globally, with climate targets that align with the most ambitious 1.5°C pathway, demonstrating the company’s exceptional commitment to climate action.

Berlin Packaging’s commitment to sustainability is unwavering. The company is dedicated to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout its entire value chain, with a plan to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 44.8% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, using 2022 as the baseline year.

The company has also set a validated target to reduce Scope 3 emissions intensity by 51.6% by 2030 and by 97% by 2050, based on emissions per $1 of revenue from the same baseline year.

Since 2022, Berlin Packaging has reduced Scope 1 & 2 emissions by over 23%.

In the same year, the company also established a comprehensive Scope 3 reduction strategy, helped more than 80 brands launch sustainable packaging solutions, and supplied nearly 13,000 metric tons of post-consumer recycled material.

The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body that enables businesses to set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science.

The SBTi framework aims to ensure that corporate climate targets are robust, actionable, and aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

“SBTi validation is more than a milestone—it’s independent proof that our climate goals are real, measurable, and aligned with the highest global standards,” said Balaji Jayaseelan, Vice President of Sustainability at Berlin Packaging.

“Our customers and partners count on us to lead with ambition and deliver results that help them achieve their own sustainability goals. This recognition energizes us to keep pushing boundaries and building a future where business growth and climate leadership go hand in hand.”

The company’s science-based net-zero greenhouse gas emissions targets by 2050 align with the 1.5°C pathway. This makes Berlin Packaging not just a leader but a pioneer, standing out among only a select group of companies worldwide.
