D6 expands US footprint with acquisition of Good Natured Products’ Illinois extrusion plant

USA – D6 Inc., a leader in circular packaging solutions, has acquired the extrusion plant of Good Natured Products in Richmond, Illinois, through an all-cash transaction. 

The deal adds significant production muscle to D6’s operations, introducing over 40 million pounds of annual extrusion capacity.

The 75,000-square-foot facility, which remains fully operational, integrates directly into D6’s existing network. 

It processes a substantial portion of clean wash flake material produced at D6’s Omni Recycling Center in Longview, Texas. 

This connection creates a direct pathway from recycled inputs to final products, supporting D6’s closed-loop manufacturing approach.

All current employees at the Richmond site will transition to D6, ensuring continuity in daily operations. 

The acquisition forms part of D6’s broader effort to develop domestic infrastructure for sustainable packaging. 

It enhances the company’s ability to manage material flows from collection to conversion, meeting rising customer demands for post-consumer recycled content in food-grade applications.

Louis Dominion, D6’s chief financial officer, stated that the move provides customers with increased supply reliability. 

He noted it addresses the need for consistent, high-quality recycled packaging options.

Good Natured Products specializes in plant-based materials for food, consumer, and industrial uses. 

The sale allows the company to concentrate on its core bio-based innovations while D6 scales up integrated recycling and forming capabilities.

In a related development, earlier this year, Berry Global Corporation announced the opening of a new sustainable packaging facility in the United States, investing US$30 million to produce recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) sheets. 

The plant, located in Evansville, Indiana, aims to recycle 15 million pounds of PET annually, focusing on food-safe containers. 

According to a company release, this expansion supports global efforts to reduce plastic waste by incorporating up to 100% recycled content in products.

D6’s purchase aligns with this trend, as the packaging sector pushes toward higher recycling rates.

The Richmond integration will accelerate D6’s output of thermoformed items, such as trays and lids, using up to 50% PCR material. 

This step addresses supply chain vulnerabilities exposed by recent global disruptions, enabling faster response to orders from major retailers.

Dominion added in a statement that pairing extrusion with in-house recycling cuts processing times by 20%, improving overall efficiency. 

The acquisition, completed last month, positions D6 to handle projected growth in eco-friendly demand, with annual production targets rising by 25% over the next two years.

As sustainable practices gain traction, deals like this highlight the shift toward self-sufficient US manufacturing.

D6 now operates four key sites nationwide, processing over 100 million pounds of recycled plastics yearly.
