BW Packaging unveils Hayssen X850 flow wrapper to enhance cheese packaging efficiency

The Hayssen X850 cycles up to 300 packs per minute with over one second of dwell time.

USA – BW Packaging, the machinery division of Barry-Wehmiller, has introduced the Hayssen X850, a multi-jaw flow wrapper tailored for cheese and similar products that demand strong seal integrity during high-speed operations.

Capable of producing up to 300 packs per minute, the machine provides more than one second of dwell time for reliable sealing while automatically detecting and resolving product jams without halting production.

This new model draws from the long-standing Hayssen RT platform, which has served cheese manufacturers for nearly seven decades.

Jim Kolmus, vice president of innovation at BW Packaging, noted that the X850 updates the operator experience by cutting down on maintenance tasks and required time.

The design includes a patented individual ring technology and quick-release jaws for faster changeovers.

Operators benefit from an intuitive film unwind system that adjusts tracking precisely, simplifying loading and minimizing interruptions.

Servo-controlled jaws further limit wear, extending service intervals.

Built with a stainless steel frame rated for IP66 washdown, the wrapper incorporates sloped surfaces for easy cleaning and separate temperature controls to handle various zipper types and films, including those made from recyclable materials.

Brantley Turner, senior product manager at BW Packaging, explained that the machine combines power with user-friendly features.

Every unit comes equipped with RFID login and an advanced OpView human-machine interface, making it accessible for all skill levels.

In parallel industry moves, Sealpac has supplied European cheese producers with updated equipment that merges robust product safeguarding with streamlined logistics and reduced material use.

Earlier this year, Sacmi delivered its H-SM wrapping system to French chocolate maker Rohan for handling hollow figures, emphasizing precision in confectionery packaging.

On December 2, 2025, Stahl completed its acquisition of Weilburger Graphics’ Turkish packaging coatings division, integrating eco-friendly coating technologies that support recyclable flexible films used in food wrappers.

This step aids manufacturers in meeting demands for lower environmental impact without sacrificing performance.

Additionally, RecyClass announced on November 29, 2025, the certification of nitrocellulose-free inks, which enhance the recyclability of flexible packaging structures.

These inks prevent contamination in recycling streams, offering cheese and dairy packagers a practical path to incorporate more sustainable options into high-volume lines like the Hayssen X850.

The launch arrives amid growing pressure on food packaging to balance speed, hygiene, and sustainability.

With global cheese production exceeding 20 million metric tons annually and valued at over US$100 billion in US dollars, efficient wrappers like the X850 address key bottlenecks in slicing and block operations.

BW Packaging plans demonstrations at upcoming trade events to showcase real-world throughput gains.
