Valpré unveils premium PET bottle redesign to strengthen shelf appeal

Coca-Cola South Africa refreshes Valpré packaging with a modern bottle design as premium water brands compete through elevated aesthetics.

SOUTH AFRICA – Coca-Cola South Africa has introduced a redesigned PET bottle for its Valpré spring water brand, enhancing its premium appearance while maintaining the same naturally filtered spring water that consumers know and trust.

The refreshed packaging is being rolled out across Valpré’s still and sparkling spring water portfolio, reflecting the brand’s philosophy that “richness is in the detail” and reinforcing its position within South Africa’s growing premium bottled water segment.

According to the company, the redesign is intended to improve shelf presence and strengthen brand differentiation in an increasingly competitive retail environment where packaging plays a key role in influencing purchasing decisions.

The new bottle features a slimmer, more contemporary silhouette complemented by sculpted, diamond-inspired facets that create greater visual depth while enhancing grip and tactile appeal.

The redesign also incorporates an embossed Valpré “V” crest on the upper shoulder of the bottle, serving as a subtle premium branding element.

While the bottle has been modernized, the company has retained several signature brand elements to ensure continuity.

The gold Valpré emblem remains prominently displayed on the label, while the established colour-coding system continues, with deep blue identifying Still Spring Water and teal distinguishing Sparkling Spring Water.

“The new Valpré bottle is a celebration of thoughtful design,” said Mario I. Garcia, Vice President and Managing Director at Coca-Cola South Africa.

“It reflects our belief that premium quality should be seen and felt. This design evolution elevates how the brand shows up on shelf, giving consumers a more premium experience of the same spring water they know and love.”

Coca-Cola emphasized that the redesign affects only the packaging. The spring water continues to be sourced, bottled and distributed locally by Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA), The Coca-Cola Company’s authorised bottler in the country.

The updated packaging is being introduced across the brand’s full plastic bottle range, including 330ml, 500ml and 1.5-litre Still Spring Water, as well as 330ml, 500ml and 1-litre Sparkling Spring Water.

The redesign reflects a broader trend within the beverage industry, where premiumisation is increasingly driven by packaging innovation as much as product quality.

Beverage companies are investing in distinctive bottle shapes, embossing, premium finishes and tactile design elements to strengthen shelf visibility, reinforce brand identity and enhance the overall consumer experience.

The launch follows Coca-Cola South Africa’s recent packaging initiatives aimed at balancing brand appeal with sustainability.

Earlier this year, the company announced the transition of its Stoney ginger beer from brown to clear PET bottles to improve recyclability, demonstrating how beverage manufacturers are increasingly integrating premium design and circular packaging principles into their packaging strategies.

As competition intensifies in the bottled water category, packaging continues to serve as a key differentiator for brands seeking to capture consumers looking for both quality and lifestyle appeal.
