South African company expands sustainable kitchen range with disposable paper liners that eliminate the need for aluminium foil and reduce cleaning time.

SOUTH AFRICA – Bonnie Bio has expanded its portfolio of sustainable kitchen products with the launch of what it describes as the world’s first plastic-free, pre-shaped disposable oven tray liners, offering consumers a more convenient and environmentally conscious alternative to conventional baking accessories.
The new product builds on the success of the company’s disposable air fryer liners and is designed to reduce one of the most common kitchen frustrations—removing baked-on grease and food residue from oven trays.
Engineered to fit the standard baking trays supplied with most domestic ovens, the liners feature a continuous 2cm raised wall that helps contain cooking oils, juices and spills during baking.
The design creates a non-stick cooking surface that can be reused several times, depending on the type of food prepared, before being disposed of.
By preventing food from sticking directly to oven trays, the liners significantly reduce the need for soaking, scrubbing and intensive cleaning, while also lowering water and detergent consumption.
Bonnie Bio says the liners provide an alternative to cooking directly on aluminium foil or uncoated metal trays.
The paper barrier helps minimize the potential transfer of aluminium that can occur when acidic, salty or high-temperature foods come into direct contact with metal surfaces, particularly during cooking above 200°C.
The oven tray liners are manufactured from responsibly sourced wood pulp and are free from plastic, chlorine and bleach.
The company added that both the product and its packaging have been designed with sustainability in mind, with the packaging also eliminating the use of plastic.
The launch reflects growing consumer demand for kitchen products that combine convenience with environmentally responsible design.
As households increasingly seek practical ways to reduce single-use plastics while simplifying meal preparation, paper-based cooking accessories are gaining popularity as alternatives to conventional disposable kitchen products.
In addition to reducing cleaning time, the liners offer practical advantages for consumers with limited kitchen space by minimizing the number of bulky oven trays requiring washing and drying after cooking.
Bonnie Bio says the product is suitable for a broad range of oven-prepared meals, including roasted vegetables, meat dishes, baked meals and tray bakes, with the raised edges helping contain cooking liquids throughout the cooking process.
The launch highlights broader innovation within the food packaging and kitchenware sector, where manufacturers are increasingly developing fibre-based alternatives to plastic and aluminium products in response to rising consumer interest in sustainable household solutions.
By combining renewable materials with functional product design, companies are seeking to deliver convenience while supporting waste reduction and more environmentally responsible everyday cooking practices.
