Greiner Packaging launches innovative square cup for enhanced branding, efficiency

The company points out that conventional round-shaped cups often spin around on shelves, limiting brand visibility.

AUSTRIA – Greiner Packaging has introduced its Cubo cup, a square-shaped container designed to optimize space and improve brand visibility.

The cup, featuring rounded edges, aims to streamline production processes while reducing resource consumption.

According to Greiner, the Cubo’s unique design allows for superior stacking, fitting up to 35% more cups on a single pallet compared to traditional round cups.

This efficiency reduces warehouse space needs, enhances transport logistics, and cuts CO2 emissions, making it a sustainable choice for brands.

Unlike conventional round cups that can spin on shelves, the Cubo’s angular shape ensures stability, keeping branding elements consistently visible.

“The flat surfaces of the Cubo offer brands more space for creative designs and labeling,” a Greiner spokesperson stated, highlighting its potential for enhanced product presentation.

The cup supports various materials, including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and recycled PET (rPET), providing flexibility to meet diverse brand needs.

It also accommodates in-mold labeling and cardboard-plastic combinations for added customization.

In a statement, Greiner’s global marketing director, Jörg Sabo, emphasized the cup’s versatility: “The Cubo is a game-changer for brands looking to combine sustainability with standout shelf presence.”

The company’s recent innovations complement this launch. For instance, Greiner introduced Click On and Click In sealing lids in early September 2025, designed to improve product protection and recyclability.

These lids, tailored for mono-material packaging, extend shelf life and reduce CO2 emissions across the supply chain.

Additionally, a recent collaboration with Orthomol showcased Greiner’s commitment to sustainable solutions.

The company provided rPET packaging for dietary supplement vials, further expanding its eco-friendly portfolio.

A report by industry experts noted that Greiner’s focus on recycled materials aligns with growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible packaging.

The Cubo cup’s launch comes ahead of Greiner’s participation in Fachpack 2025, scheduled for September 23-25 in Nuremberg, where the company will showcase its latest sustainable packaging solutions.

With new EU packaging regulations set to take effect in 2026, Greiner’s innovations, including the Cubo, demonstrate its proactive approach to meeting stricter sustainability standards.

The company’s ongoing efforts to integrate recycled materials and reduce resource use position it as a leader in the packaging industry’s shift toward a circular economy.

This latest development builds on Greiner’s 60-year legacy of producing innovative packaging solutions for food and non-food sectors, with a workforce of over 4,800 across 30 global locations.

The Cubo cup is expected to attract brands seeking both practical and sustainable packaging options.
