Hood Container snaps up Sumter Packaging’s corrugated business, Trioworld goes for 100% stake in Wentus

USA – Hood Container Corporation has finalized the acquisition of Sumter Packaging’s corrugated packaging business operations.

This encompasses Sumter’s entire spectrum of design, manufacturing, assembly, and fulfillment activities in Sumter, SC, alongside operations serviced from the Statesville, NC facility.

This strategic acquisition underscores Hood Container’s dedicated efforts to bolster its existing corrugated packaging endeavors, particularly in the Carolinas/Georgia region and the country’s high graphics packaging markets.

Speaking on the acquisition, Sumter Packaging CEO Benjamin DeSollar highlighted their rich heritage in packaging spanning over a century.

He emphasized the company’s foundational principles rooted in family values, customer satisfaction, and community engagement.

DeSollar expressed enthusiasm about joining forces with Hood, a family-owned enterprise known for its robust values, visionary approach, and the potential to further elevate existing strengths through its expansive national network and vertical supply chain integration capabilities.

Hood Container operates as a mill-to-market enterprise, offering a diverse array of corrugated boxes, containerboard, kraft paper, and graphic display solutions across multiple locations in 17 US states.

President and COO Charlie Hodges highlighted the strategic advantages of integrating Sumter’s assets into Hood’s industrial corrugated operations, foreseeing expanded market reach and forays into innovative product segments.

Trioworld agrees to buy 100% stake in Wentus

In parallel developments, Trioworld, a Swedish plastic packaging solutions manufacturer, has inked an agreement to acquire the complete shareholding of Germany-based Wentus.

Renowned for producing flexible films at its Höxter site, Wentus specializes in cast polypropylene extrusion, polyethylene coextrusion, and skin film manufacturing.

Notably, Wentus places sustainability at the forefront of its production processes, minimizing energy and material usage while prioritizing recyclability in design.

Andreas Malmberg, CEO of the Trioworld Group, anticipates leveraging this acquisition to fortify their market presence in advanced food, consumer, and hygiene packaging across Europe and North America.

Malmberg underscored Wentus’ track record of supplying premium products and outstanding customer support, aiming to maximize value for clientele.

Trioworld’s recent recognition with the EcoVadis Platinum medal for the third consecutive year reinforces their commitment to sustainability.

This accolade, received from EcoVadis, a prominent sustainability ratings provider, acknowledges Trioworld’s steadfast dedication to sustainable business practices.
