HP unveils ThermaCore Thermal inkjet technology to boost efficiency and cut costs

USA – HP has introduced HP ThermaCore, a next-generation thermal inkjet (TIJ) technology to improve efficiency, print quality, and cost-effectiveness in coding and marking applications.

The innovation is designed to meet global coding standards while addressing the limitations of traditional inkjet technology, such as limited throw distances, slower speeds, and complex stitching requirements.

HP says ThermaCore delivers three times the throw distance, twice the print swath, and double the printing speed compared to previous TIJ generations.

With a throw distance of up to 9mm, the new technology ensures precise printing on non-flat surfaces, making it ideal for curved or irregular packaging formats.

Additionally, its wide-format capabilities eliminate the need for stitching, reducing inconsistencies in high-speed production environments.

Capable of printing at speeds of up to 120 meters per minute, ThermaCore integrates seamlessly into fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) packaging lines.

This makes it well-suited for industries that require high-speed, high-precision coding, such as food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods.

Sustainability and cost efficiency

Sustainability is a key focus of ThermaCore’s design. HP reports that the printhead cartridge body is made from at least 65% recycled plastic, reinforcing the company’s commitment to reducing plastic waste.

Additionally, the new system enhances ink efficiency, minimizing operational costs while reducing environmental impact.

HP is positioning ThermaCore as a solution for OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) developing independent, high-speed printing solutions.

The technology became available in November 2024 for select OEMs in the U.S., Germany, France, Denmark, the UK, China, and Japan.

HP offers the technology directly and indirectly to specialty printer manufacturers, encouraging innovation in package coding and marking solutions.

ThermaCore builds on HP’s legacy of advancements in inkjet technology, aligning with industry trends focused on sustainability, efficiency, and compliance with evolving regulations.

As part of the ‘In Conversation With…’ series, HP Indigo’s Vice President and General Manager, Noam Zilbershtain, previously discussed the company’s labels and flexible packaging innovations.

He highlighted how HP’s printing solutions enhance print quality, sustainability, regulatory compliance, and product protection.

With ThermaCore, HP reinforces its position as a leader in industrial printing solutions, offering faster speeds, greater precision, and a more sustainable approach to package coding.
