US – Personal care brand Ingreendients has partnered with US-based packaging company Berry Global to develop shampoo and conditioner bottles made from 100% recycled plastic for Ingreedients’ hair care line.
The HDPE bottle is made with 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic produced at Berry’s manufacturing facility in Winchester, VA.
Commenting on the partnership, David Long, Regional Business Director at Berry Global, stated: “We are happy to partner with Ingreendients to help support what’s important to all of us—a healthy planet.
100% PCR packaging is one of the ways that our plant in Winchester, VA can help new, inspiring brands meet their sustainability goals.”
Ingreendients said the launch of a flip-top polypropylene closure made entirely from recycled plastic highlights the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
The brand is focused on reusing existing plastic and avoiding new plastic to ensure less plastic waste from personal care products is sent to landfill.
In addition to the bottles, the company uses 100% plant-derived ingredients for its salon-grade haircare product line.
Rajat Sharma, Ingreendients’ brand founder said: “The beauty industry is responsible for a third of the landfill waste in America.
“One of the core pillars for Ingreendients is sustainable packaging so that we are not creating virgin plastic and adding to the pollution problem. Hence our focus was on having the product packaged only in bottles made fully from PCR plastic.”
On working with other companies, Sharma added: “I wanted to work with an industry leader who is at the forefront of sourcing recycled materials and Berry is a leader in packaging for my industry.
“In addition, as I started to work with them, I was pleasantly surprised by the collaborative process and helping me figure out what was the best result for Ingreendients.”
Based in Indiana, Berry Global supplies plastic packaging solutions for a range of industries.
In July this year, the company introduced Vita Round, a reusable drinking bottle intended to replace single-use bottles.
The Vita Round 500ml is produced in high-quality Tritan, a special copolyester that combines the highest clarity, equivalent to glass, with being almost unbreakable
The introduction of the bottle came at a time when states in the US are banning single-use plastics.
